Retro Radio Case for Google Nest Mini – Mid-Century Modern Style
Works with old generation Google Home Mini as well!
Give your smart home a retro upgrade! This printable case transforms your Google Nest Mini into a charming vintage radio. Designed with a magnetic faceplate for a clean look and easy assembly.
I wanted(read my wife wanted) to hide the "techy" look of the smart speaker and make it blend in with our home decor. This design mimics the warm, cozy vibe of old-school analog radios. It looks perfect on a windowsill or nightstand.
✨ Features:
- Perfect fit: Specific internal ribs hold the Nest Mini snugly and securely in place without rattling.
- Magnetic faceplate: The front cover uses magnets for a satisfying "snap" fit, eliminating the need for complex latches or screws and will give easy access to the device while giving the option to change colors for the faceplate.
- Acoustically transparent: The grille pattern is designed to let sound through clearly.
- Decorative text, volume and tuning knobs: Two variants of knobs that adds to the estetic (only decorative) and a optional retro Google text to add even more flair.
- Cable routing: A discreet cutout in the back allows for clean cable management and wont let through light from the back.
🖨️ Printing Tips:
- Material: PLA Wood or PLA Matte is highly recommended for that realistic "vintage plastic" or wood look. (Model in photos uses PLA Matte Dark Chocolate and PLA Matte Desert Tan).
- Knobs: Print these in PLA Silk+ Silver or White for contrast.
- Ironing: I used ironing for the top surfaces of the box, knobs and trim decal. Ironing is not included in profile settings since I think they should be tuned individually by each user for best result
🛠️ Assembly:
- Legs: Glue the legs to the designated slots on the radio box. (Tip: Hide the seams so they wont be visible from where it is displayed)
- Magnets: You will need 8 pieces of 4x2 mm round magnets. Glue them into the recessed slots on the body and the faceplate
- Knobs: Either use the clips included in the profile so the knobs can be rotated freely or glue the decorative knobs onto the faceplate posts.
- Insert Device: Pull through the cable and connect it to your Google Nest Mini and push it into the housing; the internal tabs will hold it in place.
- Connect: Route the power cable through the notch below the tabs and snap the faceplate on!
