Description

Need a simple way to paint minis that can easily rotate them to get to those hard-to-reach angles?

A while back I made two modular miniature painting holder systems

X-series https://makerworld.com/en/models/215147

Y-series https://makerworld.com/en/models/215143

and as nice as they are and work really well, I wanted something less complicated that could also do subassemblies.

I watched a YouTube video by TableTopReady who used cheap Jenga knockoff pieces as holders while painting. And as long as the base isn't too big or preferably before you base your mini, These work great, you get heaps of them and are so cheap! In any case, these holders should be able to screw onto any block of wood or cork etc. You can even magnetize the top of the wood. I feel like the design can be improved and new parts to expand the ability of this concept might be added in the future so watch this space :)

Update: redesigned parts now make wood cracking even less likely! reoriented them for easier printing!

For this project, you will need 4G (4 gauge/M3) self-driving wood screws.

So far there are only 2 parts, the handle and a bracket. without the bracket, the weight is too much on one side and it tips over.

I usually start the bracket at the bottom.

  1. Place the bracket and block of wood on a flat surface so both pieces are flush with the bottom. Drive the top screw in place first and then the second screw is much easier.
  2. Next place the handle on the same side of the block as the bracket. I aim to have the start of the circles flush with the top face but it doesn't hurt to have it under. Just note that if it's higher it might get in the way of some minis.
