Behold: Dry Box v2. Stronger body, better lid, fewer “why won’t you OPEN?!” moments. If it sparks joy (or at least reduces humidity rage), hit Boost and chuck in a photo/comment. It helps the model get seen and guides the next add-ons. 🙌

Version 2 is the upgraded, stronger evolution of my shelf-sized filament dry box, designed around the Bambu filament box footprint so it still fits into most Bambu-style shelving and rack systems. It’s stackable, space-saving, hygrometer-ready, and built for tidy filament storage without resorting to cereal-container hacks.

 

Each box stores one Bambu spool (other spools may fit, untested). Inside, the desiccant layout keeps moisture control close to the filament so you can maintain low RH where it actually matters.

⚠️Compatibility note (read this bit) ⚠️

  • v2.x is not compatible with v1.x (lids and bodies won’t swap).
  • v2.1 is a drop-in upgrade for v2 owners: the box and lid stay the same. To upgrade from v2 to v2.1 you only need to print the Pro Gasket and the new taller latches.

Shelf/rack fit note

v2 is still designed to work with most shelving solutions made for Bambu boxes, but it is slightly taller, and the hinges/snaps add a small amount of extra width/length beyond the main body. If your rack is an ultra-tight “perfect press-fit” design, allow a little clearance around the latch/hinge areas.

v2.2 – New name along with Embedded Swatch Magnet (New)

What’s new

  • The swatch magnet is now embedded during the print for a cleaner finish and sturdier hold.
  • Rebranding the boxes to SnapStack, more variants will be landing soon

How it works (Bambu Studio)

  • The provided .3MF already includes a pause in the G-code.
  • At Layer 156, the printer will pause so you can drop in a 10 × 2 mm round magnet (10 mm diameter, 2 mm thick) into the cavity.
  • Resume the print and the next layers seal the magnet inside.
  • No glue needed.

Prefer the old way?

  • If you don’t want to embed a magnet mid-print, stick with v2.1 (no pause / no embedded magnet step).

v2.1 ✅ (Pro Gasket update)

  • Pro Gasket added (TPU): improved sealing on the bottom edge.
  • “GT Stripe” effect: the gasket is intended to be printed in black TPU, and when your box is printed in another colour it creates a clean contrast line that looks like a stripe.
  • New taller latches required: the latches are taller to accommodate the gasket thickness and maintain a confident latch engagement.
  • Drop-in upgrade: your existing v2 box + lid still work. Just print the gasket + v2.1 latches.

Good to know: I’m keeping the v2 profile available for anyone who wants to print the box without the Pro Gasket.

v2 ✅

People asked for a better lid experience, so v2 focuses on what you touch every day:

  • Improved lid system: a hinged lid with a snap-lock latch for a more confident close and a smoother open/close experience.
  • Stronger body: thicker outer shell and reinforced geometry for better durability and long-term stacking.
  • More consistent closure: designed to reduce the “too tight / too loose” behaviour that can happen with pure friction-fit lids.

Optional: I use a tiny dab of glue around the hygrometer (and the swatch magnet) so everything sits snug and the hygrometer opening seals nicely. Totally optional, but handy if your fit is a touch loose.

 

The front supports a standard round hygrometer, and there’s an optional slot for a filament swatch tile.

Variants

Choose the front style that suits your setup:

 

🔹 Standard – Hygrometer + swatch slot

🔹 No Swatch – Hygrometer only

🔹 Minimal – No hygrometer, no swatch (fastest print and cleanest front)

 

All variants share the same core v2 design, so you can mix and match without breaking your storage system vibe.

 

How to use

  1. Choose your path:
    1. v2.1 profile: Pro Gasket + taller latches.
    2. v2 profile: standard build, no Pro Gasket.
  2. Print the box + lid (supports only needed for the hygrometer cut-out, if applicable).
  3. If using v2.1: print the Pro Gasket (TPU) and the v2.1 taller latches.
  4. Add silica beads to the desiccant area.
  5. Insert your spool.
  6. (Optional) Insert your hygrometer and/or swatch tile.
  7. Close the lid, snap the latch, and stack.

 

That’s it. Airtight, compact, and pleasingly organised.

Modular roadmap (coming soon)

The plan moving forward is to make the internals more modular while keeping Version 2 as the standard size:

  • Ability to remove the three corner desiccant containers
  • Add an optional centre desiccant container
  • Future upgrades will be designed to stay within v2 dimensions, so anything you print in v2 now remains aligned with upcoming modular parts
