Lenin Bust

This project represents a unique blend of family heritage and technological innovation. The starting point is a 1960s family heirloom, an original bust that belonged to my father. By utilizing modern 3D scanning techniques, I was able to preserve the essence of this historical piece, bringing it into the digital realm for a new life through additive manufacturing.

🛠️ The Technological Workflow

The workflow was meticulously managed to honor the original sculpture:

• Digitization: High-precision 3D scanning of the original bust to capture every wrinkle and detail of the expression.
• Software Optimization: Digital model processing and preparation in Bambu Studio to maximize detail rendering on curved surfaces.
• Prototyping: The first test was printed in Bambu Grey PETG, confirming the scan's accuracy and the design's stability.
• Final Production: The final pair was printed in Silk Grey PLA, chosen to highlight the bust's volumes and artistic features.

✨ Post-Processing and Finishing

To achieve a monumental look and superior shine, the Silk PLA models underwent the following:

• Light Sanding: To smooth the surfaces and minimize visible layer lines.
• Clear Gloss Coating: This provides protection and creates a reflective play of light that mimics polished metal or stone.

⚙️ Recommended Print Settings (Bambu Lab)

• Material: Silk PLA (for the aesthetic finish) or PETG (for prototypes)
• Layer Height: 0.16mm Optimal / can be improved to 0.12mm Fine
• Walls: 3 (to ensure durability during sanding) / can be improved to 4
• Infill: 5% Gyroid
• Supports: Necessary for overhangs (such as the hat brim); Tree supports are highly recommended for clean removal.
