Description

Storing filament in a stable dry environment is important as drying, it can prevent brittleness and extrusion issues with proper care. I've developed this Wedge to fit inside the Bambu Lab Spool with openings on the filament side and no sharp edges that tend to pierce already fragile vacuum bags. This model has been updated to enhance the strength on the inside wall as some issues were previously found when a bag was vacuumed too hard. I have also made up mouse-ears (as Bambu Studio hasn't got this option as yet) to assist in adhesion which was a known issue. The bonus Funnel has grown a little in the mouth to facilitate easier filling. Overall I'm happy with this version and look forward to hearing any feedback.

There is now a PETG profile for this, I've ignored it for too long. In preliminary use its been robust and feels sturdier than the PLA model. Both are handy to have, use spare filaments and fill a plate full in downtime, post pics if you get creative :)

You asked, I thought, it happened. Linked below is the new Desiccant Wedge, the "Stubby" version. This will fit your full Bambu spools better and are easier than ever to print.

I printed a couple of these, and I really like them, but they bulge out of the spool if the spool is still relatively full. This is due to the small radius of this wedge. I think an option for one with the length reduced by half based on a larger radius would work better for nearly full rolls. I'd still print two per roll to get the same volume of desiccant, but they'd be flusher with the filament. (Not sure if just calling it "the radius" is the right terminology but I believe it conveys my meaning well enough)

Thats great feedback, and yes I found the initial full spool size discrepancy when I first made this model. There were two sizes to cope with that but I found one didn't get downloaded so skipped it for the more popular one here. I don't vac my bags heavily anymore, in my thinking it probably inhibits the circulation of any moisture towards the desiccant (not that its huge). As a result the quirky radius isn't so much an issue :) That said, I do like the half size idea of yours, the amount of desiccant would still be plenty for a reasonably stable environment for one per spool. One calculation for desiccant was 5.69g (the wedge is roughly 40g), for a 250x250x70mm box so I think we're safe.

It took a little long to get there but here's a new upload that I'd like you to try :) https://makerworld.com/en/models/467456#profileId-376546

It is a bright green, its reasonably good filament too. Its a local small business in Melbourne Australia, just testing his stuff out to support local suppliers.

long time supporter here. I have personally printed more than 40 of these between versions 1 2 and now 3 in both pla and petg these are a great solution for those of us that have a filament acquisition problem and store them in vac bags. I have over 60 rolls currently with 16 more coming so I stopped in to print more tonight only to find another update thanks man.

Thanks, hearing feedback is great and helpful no matter. I’m happy to know it’s working for you. This update was following a hiccup with an unrelated matter. I decided to refresh my small collection one by one and this is one of my favourites. There should be no more lifting with the mouse ears and the support in the middle feels stronger. PETG was always a gunna, this time I’m real proud to say that they turned out great 👍 PS I’m working on more storage solutions now
