Description

The X1C Side Spool was the first serious model I designed from the ground up, it is driven by my practicality and is sturdy and economical. I've utilised the original Metal bracket and mounting points, additionally there is a second PTFE arm which requires one of those stray Nozzle screws that typically get thrown in the drawer. It prints easily in PLA and requires no supports, a clean plate and calibrated filament will see great results.

The Bracket mounts securely to the original mounting points and the original metal holder goes in the side and is easily removed if you want. Two m3x16mm screws attach to the mounting points, a length of PTFE sweeps around to the rear connection. There is little advantage having this PTFE short, make the length to suit a free curve with no kinks.

*Updated PFTE Arm added due to feedback of hole size being irregular (this can be filament/calibration variations). The new arm is also in the full model as a second plate. You will need a Nozzle screw to install the Pivot head, alternative is a standard M3x16 screw.

** Special Request - Side Spool with Bambu Labs 4-in-1 Filament Hub Plate uploaded. This version has been remodelled with the new PTFE holder and the Buffer relocated and attached to the Side Spool Bracket. The parts are the same for the Side Spool attachment, add 2x M3x8 and 1x M4x8 for the Buffer plate. Refer to the Print Profile for full information.

Wow thats one Generic cardboard spool :)... I've had various feedback about that hole, have now uploaded a new arm if you're interested. It has a pivot and fits up with a spare nozzle screw (or M3x16). Thank you for the feedback and rating :))

I modified it to be a little longer😅 And I had to drill the hole for the PTFE tube to 4.5mm and then tape it (the PTFE tube) a bit with electrical tape so it can have a snug fit.

Did you use the new updated PTFE holder? It should be a snug fit both ways from tests I've made. Interesting lengthened the arm, I'm not sure I'd use it personally :) Thanks for the feedback.

I downloaded the 3mf file on the 24th of March, and the file was already updated. My PTFE tube is 4.1mm, maybe that is why I had to drill it ... First, I drilled it with a 4mm drill, and it didn't fit, and after I drilled it again with a 4,5mm drill, the hole was too loose, and that is why I taped it with electrical tape ... Nonetheless, I like the design.

Ahh that makes sense now, I didn't notice the Blue PTFE before you mentioned it. I'm planning to change the arm one more time soon as I get a free moment. Thank you for the feedback again, you're welcome :)

The spool holder came out great but not matter what I did, I could not get the PTFE tube to fit inside the PTFE holder. I will file it down to make it work. for now the spool holder works just great!

I've changed the PTFE holder in the past to make that fit firm and universal to cater for minor filament/machine variance, I guess its not quite perfect. Sorry it didn't work first up, but glad it does overall. Thanks for the feedback, it helps to hear good and bad :)) Cheers for the rating too.

The Ingenuity of incorporating the spool holder that BambuLab sends us is awesome. One less modification to print is always a plus!

Quick question. what screws did you use to mount it? the screws that came with thr printer to mount just the metal piece to the back are too short when using the printed bracket.

works great so far. just the hole for the PTFE was a bit tide, 1/10mm of. but no problem with 4mm drill, but drilled by hand!

;) it'll outlast the printer lol... Yeah its a weird hole and I've had three consecutive prints all different, in the next version I'm changing the hole/arm design. Thanks for the feedback :) PS. The filament wiper is a great idea 👍

the filament wiper … 😂 it’s a nice relict from my old printers. I use them now for a couple of years, easy to print and very usefull. But please don’t use any “mineral oil” as in the description. thingiverse thing: 492067 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:492067

The most efficient design I’ve seen for a side spool mount, and is friendly to splitters on the upper corner of the printer.

Thank you kindly for the feedback. It was one of my first designs for my X1 and it's evolution has seen the arm being universal as my feed goes under (I run my buffer on the back of that mount). Thanks for the rating too :)
