Description

Octagonal spool roller to roll them all. Easily printed in different orientations. Remixable for different attachments.

Changelog

DateDescription
20-04-2024Merged different variants in this model
15-04-2024Released v2. Increased roller skirts to prevent some spools from side-slipping. Reduced roller radius accordingly.

There are multiple length variants available for different spools:

  • 60mm
Print this if you are using narrow spools that usually contain less than 1kg of filament (Fiberlogy/Prindano/Ultimaker)
  • 70mm
A common choice for a majority of 1kg spools (Creality/Elegoo/Esun/Rosa3D)
  • 80mm
For rolling thick bastards carrying a little bit more than 1kg of filament
  • 90mm
    For rolling even thicker bastards
  • 110mm
    For heavy 3kg spools

You can choose a specific length if you are constantly (re)using the same spool, or simply choose a longer variant if you are using filaments on spools from different manufacturers.

This spool roller has multiple attachment options:

  • For 30mm threaded insert
The most common thread on factory spool holders coming with Elegoo/Creality/Artillery/etc
  • For Honeycomb Storage Wall
  • For IKEA Skadis pegboard (coming soon)
  • For Multiboard
  • For your specific need (just remix the attached f3d)

Parts list

  • 2x 608 ball bearing (in this specific application cheaper → better)

Printing recommendations

  • Tune dimensional accuracy to achieve the best results
  • You can experiment with printing orientation but printing vertically with an insert on top works all the time
  • Use 10mm inner/outer brims to prevent corner lifting and falling
  • Use manual tree supports only on 2 flat overhanging surfaces
  • The roller has an embedded sacrificial layer for printing without supports
  • Use material and settings that allow bridging

Assembly

  1. Remove the brims and cut off a sacrificial layer from the roller using clippers
  2. It MAY require some amount of post-processing(sanding) depending on how clean your supports(filament) come off
  3. Slap 608 bearings on the roller
  4. Attach the assembled barrel to your printer/wall/whatever
  5. Drop the roller into the barrel
  6. Hang your spool
  7. Enjoy smooth ride

P.S You can buy me a coffee if you like this model

I made a remix of the HSW. I had issues with the original falling over time. https://www.printables.com/model/861065-hsw-80mm-spool-mount

Thanks. Did you have this issue with the previous version with 1 hsw insert? I made new version which has 2 inserts and a hole to screw it to the wall.
