Description

SpoolEase Label adds NFC, material type, and ID integration to any standard spool for use with an inventory system.

To see what SpoolEase is all about please check https://www.spoolease.io

It works well on its own but is designed to pair with the SpoolEase Management System, which offers inventory tracking, accurate dual-method weight measurement, automatic printer configuration, tag import support, and more.

More details about SpoolEase are available on GitHub, MakerWorld, and the project / documentation pages.

Attach the holder to the spool using strong double-sided tape that tolerates dryer cycles. If you use a filament dryer, test one spool first. Print all parts in at least PETG.

Features:

  • Slim 1.2 mm profile for AMS compatibility
  • Beveled shape for smooth AMS operation
  • Material plates for all types supported in Bambu Studio
  • Digit plates for ID numbering
  • NFC tag, ID digits, and material plates slide in and can be removed with a small screwdriver without detaching the holder
  • Positioning jig included for consistent placement on the spool

Printing Instructions

  • The holder model uses 0.1mm layer height. This is important - don't change it!
  • Print using a heat-resistant material if you plan to put your spool in a dryer—at minimum PETG, ideally ABS or ASA.
  • Print the holders in the quantity you need, plus one positioning jig
  • Print the material plates and digit plates you require. In the slicer, simply deselect any parts you don’t want
  • A1-Mini users: the digits and material plates fit correctly, but you may need to move the brim tower manually. MakerWorld’s test fails because it doesn’t account for my tower placement, so the A1-Mini version couldn’t be uploaded. Please adjust the tower position yourself before printing.

Usage Instructions

  1. Apply strong double-sided tape to the back of the holder, as shown in the photos.
  2. Position the jig at the edge of the spool for correct alignment.
  3. Attach the holder to the spool.
  4. Slide a 25 mm diameter, 0.8 mm thick NFC tag into its slot from the side. For NFC stickers, attach them in the same position.
  5. Insert the material plate the same way, sliding it into its slot.
  6. Slide the digit plates into their slots similarly.
  7. To remove a plate or the NFC tag, insert a small screwdriver under the edge, lift slightly, and pull it out.

Disclaimer:

  • This has been tested with AMS, not with AMS-HT, and with all sorts of spools but not all.
  • If you decide to use this, please check this fits your spools and AMS. With some spools there may not be enough space left on the sides of the AMS for the extra 1.2mm
