Description
Pixiu (pí xiū), also known as "Bixie, Tianlu, Baijie", commonly called "Pi Dahou", is a fierce auspicious beast recorded in ancient Chinese books and folk myths and legends. It is one of the five auspicious beasts along with the Dragon, Phoenix, Tortoise, and Qilin.
According to the "Records of the Grand Historian: Annals of the Five Emperors", Pixiu was a fierce beast trained by the Yellow Emperor. "Qing Bai Lei Chao: Animals: Pixiu" records: Pixiu's appearance resembles a tiger, or a bear, and its fur color is grayish-white. Pixiu has the body of a tiger or leopard, a head and tail like a dragon, its color is both gold and jade, it has a pair of wings on its shoulders but cannot spread them, and it has a single horn on its head that points backward. In ancient times, it was distinguished by one or two horns; one horn was called "Tianlu", and two horns were called "Bixie".
