Description

I’ve always enjoyed the statue ‘The Thinker’, and when I heard about the Scan the World project that has posted 3D printable models of thousands of famous artifacts, I went looking. If you have not seen this site, it’s worth checking out (https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Scan%20The%20World). I used the original model from Scan the World and designed a pedestal for it that I think makes it a better display piece.

I’ve posted several profiles depending on your preference. These profile models are all 250mm tall, so they can be scaled down in your slicer to make smaller versions that also require far less print time:

1 With Text & For Weighting

This profile has The Thinker written on the pedestal and uses lightning infill. The lightning infill produces a light weight, nearly hollow model that can be filled (or not) with your choice of pourable materials for weight by drilling a hole in the bottom. For post-addition of weight, I know many people like sand, which will work, but keep in mind it could crack open and spill since the model has a relatively thin shell. I suggest a further increase in wall thickness if you choose this route. I personally like plaster of paris. It’s easy to pour in and solidifies, so I don’t have to worry about future leaks. Since it solidifies, you don’t need to plug the filling hole either.

2 With Text & Use As Printed

This profile has The Thinker written on the pedestal and uses a typical grid infill. It’s about twice the weight of the unfilled lightning infill version if you want a bit heavier model but don’t want to bother filling it.

3 No Text & For Weighting

You can leave it blank or make your own label. Has lightning infill for weighting.

4 No Text & Use As Printed

No text and grid infill.

In addition, I realized the round pedestal model I created for this project might be useful on it’s own, so it’s also posted separately here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/197238#profileId-217782
