Modular hexagonal Trellis for house plant that does not require glue. Easy to assemble without tools.
Parts available in three different pre scaled sizes:
stakes with varying amounts and locations of connectors
hexagonal sections with varying amounts and locations of connectors
X connectors (two needed per side)
Assemble:
layout your design before printing in the slicer to make sure you have the right parts for your design. For hexagons that connect on 3 sides you will need to use flat connecters for one of the sides. (don't mix different sizes)
take your first part and add a X connector to each empty space
take the part you want to connect to it and flip it, so it is upside down compared to the part you want to connect it to
with the first part laying on a table line up the empty connector spots with the connectors on the first part
push down on the new part till it is lying flat on the table (you can use a mallet if the connectors are tight, but you shouldn't have to)
repeat for each new part till you have a finished trellis
Things to keep in mind:
If your trellis needs to be very stiff glue the pieces together at the connectors. A small drop of superglue or even wood glue should work fine.
You can always scale up the parts if you want a bigger trellis but make sure they are all scaled the same amount. Scaling down the trellis may result in weak or improperly fitting connections especially if you use a bigger nozzle to print it.
You can use multiple stakes if you want a bigger trellis. You could even bridge multiple pots of plants together with the right design.
A UV resistant filament will lengthen the life of the print if you intend to use it for a plant that requires direct sunlight. You may notice color fading with some filaments left in direct sunlight.
If you run into a situation where the part you need isn't available reach out and I can add it, or you can always model your own. I'm sure I missed some combinations of connectors. (If you do make your own models that work with mine, please post a remix. I would love to see your cool designs.)
This is a great print! I printed the 100% scale plate in translucent green PETG. It looks really nice with my vine plant.
I don't understand the need for flat X connectors and the "normal" ones though. It seems like it would be easier if all the connectors were the flat ones, and it would hide all the connectors on one side. Possibly it's a strength thing? Either way, a great trellis system!
Sorry you had to size them down. I've found that some filaments can be either loose or tight. In some cases, I had issues with them not fitting if the filament was to wet but it was with a very wet spool of petg.
