Assembly Instructions for Micro Dump Truck - Step 1: Main Frame

Preparation:

  • Gently cut out all the pieces from the kit card. Take special care not to remove the holding pins as these will be crucial for assembly.
  • Straighten a piece of filament to be used as the axle and hinge. The straighter the filament, the smoother the assembly will be.

Step 1: Assembling the Main Frame

Locate the front axle, front, cabin, lights, exhaust and frame parts:

Lights and Exhaust Placement:

  • Locate the small holes on the underside of the cabin piece.
  • Align the pins of the lights and exhaust pieces with these holes.
  • Insert the lights at the front and the exhaust on the side of the cabin, pressing gently until they click into place.

Frame Attachment:

  • Take the main frame part and align it with the front grille piece.
  • Carefully push the frame into the grille until it is securely attached.

Cabin Installation:

  • Find the slot on the front part of the frame, which is designed to hold the cabin.
  • Slide the cabin down through this slot, ensuring that it sits flush with the frame.

Front Axle Installation:

  • From below the assembly, position the front axle piece so that it aligns with the corresponding slots in the frame.
  • Press the axle upwards, making sure that the push pins engage with the underside of the cabin and the frame, locking everything into place.

Step 2: Bed Assembly

Parts Needed:

  • Top bed part
  • Front bed part
  • Side bed parts (two pieces)
  • Bottom bed part

Assembly Steps:

Front Bed to Bottom Bed:

  • Start by taking the front bed part and aligning it with the bottom bed part.
  • Carefully insert the tabs of the front bed part into the corresponding slots on the bottom bed part. Press gently until they click into place, ensuring they are fully seated.

Attaching the Sides:

  • Next, take the side bed parts and align them with the assembled front and bottom pieces.
  • Gently slide the side pieces into the slots, connecting them to both the front and the bottom bed parts. Be cautious during this step to avoid bending the pins.

Securing the Top Part:

  • Finally, take the top bed part and align it over the structure you've just assembled.
  • Press the top bed part down onto the front bed part, ensuring that the tabs click into the slots securely. It should fit snugly and complete the bed of the dump truck.

Step 3: Securing Bed to Main Frame

Parts Needed:

  • Main frame from Step 1
  • Bed assembly from Step 2
  • Filament piece
  • Cutting tool

Assembly Steps:

Aligning the Bed and Frame:

  • Take the bed assembly you completed in Step 2 and line it up with the main frame from Step 1. Ensure the holes for the hinge on the bed align with those on the frame.

Inserting the Filament Hinge:

  • Insert the filament piece through the aligned holes to act as a hinge pin. The filament should go in smoothly but with a snug fit. This will allow the bed of the dump truck to tilt.

Securing the Hinge:

  • Once the filament is in place, check that the bed tilts up and down freely. This will simulate the dumping action of the truck.

Trimming Excess Filament:

  • Use the cutting tool to trim any excess filament from both sides of the hinge. Be careful to cut it flush with the frame to prevent any sharp edges.

Step 4: Tires

Parts Needed:

  • Six tires (four with a smaller inner diameter and two with a larger inner diameter)
  • Rear axle spacer
  • Two wheel caps
  • Filament piece
  • Optional: Glue

Assembly Steps:

Wheel Cap and Filament Axle:

  • Take one wheel cap and slide it onto one end of the filament piece. This will act as a stopper for the wheels.

Attaching Rear Wheels:

  • Slide the two tires with the smaller inner diameter onto the filament piece, up against the wheel cap you just attached.

Inserting Rear Axle Spacer:

  • Position the rear axle spacer between the frame parts at the rear of the dump truck. It should fit snugly and help to maintain the correct distance between the wheels.

Securing Rear Wheels to Frame:

  • Guide the filament axle with the attached wheels through the rear hub area of the main frame.
  • Once the axle is through, attach the remaining two wheels to the protruding end of the filament axle.
  • Secure the wheels in place by adding the second wheel cap to the end of the filament. Press firmly to ensure it is snug. If the fit isn't tight enough, you may add a drop of glue to hold the wheel cap in place.

Attaching Front Tires:

  • Take the tires with the larger inner diameter and press them onto the front axle pins protruding from the main frame. Ensure they rotate freely for smooth rolling action.

Your Micro Dump Truck is now complete. Well done! It's a neat little project to finish, and I hope you find it a satisfying addition to your collection or as a fun toy. Enjoy your craftsmanship.

Pretty nice little dump truck. Printed it in my Ender 3 with a 0.4 mm nozzle with a layer height of 0.12 mm. Good result. Took 3 hours to print at 40 mm/s. Took around 20 minutes to put it together (being super careful with the clips)

Glad you liked it. It was designed with 0.08mm in mind but its nice to hear that it works on 0.12mm as well. Your printer must be dailed in very well.
