Description

I recently needed to respool a spool of filament because the original spool wasn't compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS. All already existing models needed some additional hardware, which I just didn't want to bother getting. Thus I created my own design. It only needs the two printed parts and a regular hexagonal pencil. Simply clamp the new spool between the who parts and stick a pencil through the hole. The pencil which I used is about 7mm thick (between flats). This seems to be quite a common size, at least here in Europe. Than just mount the pencil in an electric drill and put the old spool onto a filament holder. Then just spin up the drill and start spooling. While respooling make sure to guide the filament with a small piece of PTFE tube. The windings don't look perfect but it certainly works if you just occasionally need to respool a roll of filament.

This is what the finished spools look like:

The idea is good but need improvements. The tolerance between the two parts are too tight. The pencil on the center just snapped trying to screw it. It snapped at less than the middle of the fillets. This print is not usable for me. It is going to the junkyard. Printed on X1C.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with this design. It worked perfectly for me, so the bad tolerances could be a tuning issue on your machine? If you want to I can upload a version with bigger tolerances, but I'm not gonna bother if you're not gonna print it again anyways. About the pencil snapping off: you might have used a lower quality pencil or it might also be some sort of tolerance problem with the inside hole being to small? I really have no idea to be honest as I haven't had this issue. I was able to respool an entire spool and probably even more but I haven't done any further respooling, I initially thought that this might pose a problem but since it worked out so perfectly for me, I didn't think it actually was a real issue and uploaded the model. Again I am sorry you had a bad experience and wasted some filament and time :( If you want me to make a version with larger tolerances and maybe also have some other ideas for improvement, just message me and I'll try to implement them ;)

Could you please be a little more precise? What does not fit? How could I improve it?

it worked great, I made the mistake of changing the infill and broke it but that was my fault and not the designer 😅

边缘锋利需要倒角,螺纹建议浅一点,不然的话打印悬空螺纹会有形变。
