Description

Aztec - Mayan calendar, AKA The Sun Stone.

This is a loooong print, but it is soooooo worth it. This thing looks awesome. Black filament and some Rub n' Buff makes this masterpiece really pop. You may notice that the thickness is larger on one side of the Sun Stone than the other. This was actually done by mistake but I wound up liking it because it gave it sort of a hand crafted vibe. Perfection is in the eyes of the beholder.

Print Recommendations:

0.20mm layer height works, but 0.16 helps the details appear slightly smoother. You can go less if you'd like but I personally have not experimented with smaller layer heights. I would not advise higher layer heights. It may work, but you may also lose a lot of the detail.

Keep printing speeds on the low side and ensure plenty of infill. There are many fine details that will benefit. This is what I used and what I know works. I started with the default 0.16mm High Quality Print profile and changed the following.

- Both initial layer speeds @ 50mm/s.

- All other print speeds set to 150mm/s with the exception of outer wall, bridge, and overhang speeds. Leave those at default.

- Travel speed set to 300mm/s.

- Default acceleration speeds for 0.16mm High Quality profile.

- 20% rectilinear infill.

If you want to print one that is slightly translucent like the white one in my pictures, use a slightly translucent filament. I used white eSun ePLA-HS. Its not labeled as being translucent, but its got a slight bit of clarity. Just enough I might say to get the effect. I also set the infill to 20% aligned rectilinear.

You don't need the AUX fan for this print. To ensure you don't experience warping, turn the aux fan off. If you use Bambu PLA the AUX fan is set to 70% at default. Ensure you turn this off in the filament profile or just turn it off after your print starts if you're printing from the Handy app.

Clean your build plate with soap and water and ensure you do not touch the surface with your bare hands. This will help ensure adhesion so you don't lose your print at any point. Feel free to use your favorite adhesion promoter on your build plate for extra assurance.

Ensure your filament is dry and calibrated. There are a lot of fine details and tons of travels.

You probably can scale this down but just remember the smaller you go, the more details you're going to lose. If you're looking to make a miniature, using a 0.2mm nozzle me be required to retain quality. Going too small may just wind up in a weird failure. I have not tested this so this is not a recommendation.

Lastly, this is not a Hueforge. This model was scanned using a Revopoint Miraco and adjusted in Nomad Sculpt.

Thats got to be the smoothest looking one I’ve seen yet. What filament did you wind up using?

sorry for the late reply. i don’t use this often. I used Bambu brand PLA Basic in beige. It looked amazing. I didn’t do anything special, just printed from the Bambu Handy app. It was better than expected for sure!

This is a fantastic piece, it did have a few goes as I had extruder clog at 12hrs the first time and filament issue the next. Thrid time it came out great with a few odd moments. 23osh hours and in Bambu Yellow Glow.

I haven't quite worked out if I'm going to do some touchups to make the contrast a bit better in the daylight. I do love the bambu glow though.

very nice! I’m not seeing any additional profiles on my model upload. An A1 mini profile would be a nice addition as long as it retains the quality and doesn’t just focus on speed. edit: I see it now! thanks for taking the time to upload it so this model can be available to more people!

I do see it as A1 mini on my end (and I printed it on my A1 mini). Definitely went for quality over speed and I'm pretty impressed with the end result.
