Description

Introducing an RFID Adapter for Overture Spools

As a 3D printing enthusiast, I've always appreciated the convenience of Bambulab's RFID tags for automatic filament detection and tracking in the Automated Material System (AMS). However, due to stock shortages of Bambulab filaments, I've shifted to using Overture filaments, which lack the RFID functionality.

To bridge this gap, I've developed a simple adapter that enables the use of Bambulab's RFID tags on Overture spools. This adapter is a small piece that attaches to the cardboard spool of Overture filaments, allowing the AMS to detect the filament type, color, and track the remaining filament, just like with Bambulab spools.

How It Works:

  • The adapter requires only one RFID tag from a Bambulab spool, which can be cut and glued to the adapter.
  • The positioning of the adapter is crucial for proper detection by the AMS:
    • For AMS Slot 1 and Slot 3, place the adapter on the right side of the spool.
    • For AMS Slot 2 and Slot 4, place the adapter on the left side of the spool.

This solution is not only cost-effective, as it reuses existing RFID tags, but also easy to implement, requiring minimal effort to attach the adapter to the spool.

By using this adapter, Overture filament users can enjoy the same level of convenience and efficiency as Bambulab filament users, without the need for manual filament tracking. It's a simple yet effective way to enhance the 3D printing experience with the AMS.

you have to buy the roll or refill from bambu first to get the tag, no one can write bambu rfid yet

Am I missing something or the AMS will see the Overture as a BBL spool ? If yes it will use the BBL config which may not be right. Did I miss something ?
