Description
Block Me: The Abstract Strategy Game
Block Me is a tight, tactical abstract strategy game for two players where forward movement and strategic obstruction are key to victory. Navigate the central path while skillfully deploying your nine blocking tiles to slow down or reroute your opponent. Once a tile is placed, it cannot be moved. It's a tense race across the board—but remember, you can never completely block your rival's path! Master the balance between moving and menacing to claim victory.
Game Title: Block Me
- Players: 2
- Time: 15–20 minutes
- Age: 8+
- Genre: Abstract Strategy, Tactical Movement
Goal of the Game
The objective of Block Me is simple: Be the first player to guide your pawn across the $7 \times 7$ board and reach the row directly opposite your starting row (your opponent's home row).
Gameplay
Players take turns performing one of two actions:
- Move Your Pawn: Move your pawn exactly one space in any orthogonal direction (forward, backward, left, or right).
- Place a Blocking Tile: Place one of your nine available blocking tiles onto the board.
Rules for Placing Tiles
- Obstruction: A tile must be placed on the grid lines between squares, spanning the length of two squares, effectively creating a wall.
- Impassable Barrier: Pawns cannot move through a placed tile.
- Permanence: Once a tile is placed on the board, it is permanent and cannot be moved or removed for the remainder of the game.
- The Golden Rule: One Path Must Remain: A player may not place a tile in a way that completely seals off their opponent, making it impossible for them to reach their goal row. At least one accessible path to the opposite side must always exist.
