Description

This is a revised version of my first balisong design. This new design is balanced better for flipping, very durable, and easier to print. There are also many options for customization. 

  • There are a variety of blade designs to choose from.
  • It can be fully printed or made with M3 screws, specs linked here.
  • There is a choice between handles that flair out or close completely. (The balisongs in the thumbnail have flared handles)

I have included a step file of a blank blade so its easier for others to make their own blade designs. If you create your own blade design please post a remix. I would love to see what you make! If you enjoy the design a like or make would be appreciated.

Notes:

  • If the threading on the pins is too tight try scaling them down a little in the x and y direction.
  • Printing using filament with enhanced mechanical properties such as a PLA Pro or PLA tough variant significantly increase durability.
  • Using a generic plastic lubricant on the pin and handle contact points provides much smoother flipping.
  • Printing the handle vertically provides the best surface finish. This can be difficult for low end printers so the design has also been optimized for printing horizontally.
  • Tightening the screws too much will stop it from flipping and tightening too little can make it rattle a lot. Try to find the sweet spot between the two.

fun toy and after a short break in period it flips with no effort. printed with three-color filament and forgot to align/flip one handle so the colours align afterwards. So now each side of the balisong is dual-color on the handle 🤦🏼

Came out great add a little bit of lube. to one that didn't move as freely but overall amazing.

What a great model, came out perfect on my P1S. really fun fidget toy, the only issue is it could use a little more weight, but that’s a plastic knife problem not a design issue haha. might try to find a way to add some weight to the blade.
