Parametric storage box with customizable dividers
Print Profile(2)

Description
I created a parametric print-in-place storage box with hinges, that is fully customizable. The dimensions of the box can be customized, but also the amount and the location of separators. To prevent items from falling out of the created compartments, both the bottom and lid have a sliding lid that snaps gently into place. In this way, both halves of the box can be used optimally without items falling out! See below for details on how to customize your box!
This box is based on a design without compartments, so if you don't need customizable compartments, you can check out that design here: Parametric Storage Box by Fleetwood MakerWorld: Download Free 3D Models

UPDATE 27 march 2026
- I created a Drill Bit Storage box based on this model. Check it out here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2577023-drill-bit-storage-box#profileId-2841773

UPDATE 2 NOV 2025
- I made improvements to the closing latch. The original latch was thin and could snap off. I've increased the thickness of the lip on the lid and made the recess in the bottom deeper, so it is easer to get your finger under the latch.
UPDATE 13 OCT 2025
- I added a 4th horizontal divider in both the bottom and lid. If you really go supersize, you can create a lot of compartments! At the bottom I added some useful tips for a large grid layout.
UPDATE 12 OCT 2025
- I added a 6th vertical divider in both the bottom and lid. This was based on feedback and makes sense as you can now create a cool 7x3 grid of approximately 2.5x2.5 cm compartments. Ideal for storing small crews or electrical components.
- For some reason, I cannot change the order of the parameters that can be set. So the settings for the 6th dividers are way at the end.
- No other changes have been made. I tested a bunch of different settings and it all seems to work. If not, leave a comment so I can fix it.
The box and lids have to be customized separately, so make sure you use the same dimensions. The following settings can be customized:
DIMENSIONS
- boxWidth: the width of the outside of the box in mm. Minimal width is 92 mm due to the hinges, max width is 300 mm. The inside width is 8 mm less than the entered width.
- boxHeight: the TOTAL outside height of the box, so bottom and lid combined. So a setting of 40 mm results in a bottom and lid of 20 mm each. The minimal height is 35 mm, max 300 mm. The inside height is 8 mm less than the entered height (4 mm per halve).
- boxDepth: the depth of the outside of the box. Minimal depth is 25 mm, max is 300 mm. The inside depth is 9 mm less than the entered depth.
- For the lids, the settings above should be the same as the box itself
SEPARATORS
Up to 6 vertical and 4 horizontal separators can be toggeld on/off and their location can be customized. The vertical separators in the bottom are labeled ‘SeparatorV1 - V5’ (from left to right). The horizontal separators in the bottom are labeled ‘SeparatorH1-H3’ (from edge toward hinge). For the lid, the same names are used, preceded with ‘LID’ (see image below). The separators have a width of 2 mm.
UPDATE: a 6th vertical and 4th horizontal separator is added to the bottom (SeparatorV6; SeparatorH4) and lid (LIDSeparatorV6; LIDSeparatorH4)

How to customize the separators:
- toggle on/off: this can be done by setting the slider of the respective separator to 0 (off) or 1 (on)
- position: the relative position to the INSIDE of the box is set by changing the setting followed with ‘_position’ to the desired value. A value of 0.25 sets the position of the separator to ¼ (or 25%) of the box.
- For the vertical separators, the left inner wall is the point of reference
- For the horizontal separators, the lower inner wall is the point of reference (near lock for the bottom, near hinges for the top).
The settings are limited between 0.1 - 0.9

I have only printed the box with PLA. The maximum size I printed is 180 x 90 X 40 mm (W x D x H) and that prints without issues. Smallest I tried is about 92 x 30 x 35 mm and that works as well.
SLIDING LIDS
The sliding lids for the bottom a lid are a bit different. Make sure the one with the extra rib is used for the lid of the box. It will probalby also fit in the bottom of the box, but the fit is not that great.
EXAMPLE
As there are a lot of possible combinations, an example can be useful. To create the box in the picture below, the following settings are used (default settings):
- boxWidth = 100 (same for sliding inner lids)
- boxHeight = 40 (same for sliding inner lids)
- boxDepth = 60 (same for sliding inner lids)
- SeparatorV2 = 1; SeparatorV2_position = 0.33
- SeparatorV4 = 1; SeparatorV4_position = 0.67
- Separator H2 = 1; SeparatorH2_position = 0.5
- LIDSeparatorV2 = 1; LIDSeparatorV2_position = 0.33
- LIDSeparatorV4 = 1; LIDSeparatorV4_position = 0.67
- LIDSeparator H2 = 1; LIDSeparatorH2_position = 0.5
EXAMPLE 2: supergrid
To create the box in the image below, use the following settings:
- boxWidth = 180 (same for sliding inner lids)
- boxHeight = 40 (same for sliding inner lids)
- boxDepth = 170 (same for sliding inner lids)
- separator V1-V6: 1
- separator H1-H4: 1
- LIDseparator V1-V6: 1
- LIDseparator H1-H4: 1
- separator V1-V6_positions: 0.15; 0.29; 0.43; 0.57; 0.71; 0.85
- separator H1-H4_positions: 0.2; 0.4; 0.6; 0.8
- LIDseparator V1-V6_positions: 0.15; 0.29; 0.43; 0.57; 0.71; 0.85
- LIDseparator H1-H4_positions: 0.2; 0.4; 0.6; 0.8
