Description
Modular Formicarium
The formicarium, or ant farm, consists of several modules that can be connected to each other in any configuration. Currently, a habitat module with one type of insert and a dry module, which can also be used as an arena, have been developed.
All elements, except for the module covers, are 3D Printed. The covers are cut from 3mm thick plexiglass. The opening on the dry module cover can be of any size and in any place, but it will be necessary to provide an appropriate plug. When using the dry module as an arena, it is advisable to increase the size of the window in the cover and make a transparent plug for it.
The connector is used to connect to other types of formicaria for relocating an ant colony.
The gypsum inserts (2 pcs) are inserted into the habitat module insert. They must first be filled with gypsum solution and allowed to dry. The gypsum inserts are used to provide water to the ant colony.
After installing the habitat insert inside the habitat module and securing it, sand must be poured through the central opening. The sand must be clean and dry. It is necessary to fill the space between the bases of the habitat module and the habitat insert as much as possible; when filling, tilt and shake the module. Then, carefully, perhaps with a syringe, moisten the sand.
The composition and modules of the formicarium will be refined.
