Music cube

A set of three dice for aleatoric compositions:

• 12-sided die: note names
• 4-sided die: note lengths (A=eighth, V=quarter, H=half, G=whole)
• 6-sided die: pitch direction (up, down, same)

Possible task for students in music class

Take the three music dice and compose a melody of at least eight notes according to the following rules (with multi-part accompaniment)

• Die "Pitch" (C to B): determines the name of the note or the pitch. Whenever a note name is directly repeated, replace it with a rest

• Die "Direction" (↑, ↓, =): determines whether the following note is higher or lower than the previous note. If the equals sign appears, ignore the result of the pitch die in this round and repeat the previous note

• Die "Duration" (Whole, Half, Quarter, Eighth): determines the note value. What is shown at the bottom applies here
