Description

Yet another parametric box, which can be customised to fit your specific needs. All aspects can be customised such as shell thickness, rib spacing, clasp and hinge size, etc. All values have had limits placed on them or fall back values so it should be pretty hard to mess up the design even if you download the .f3d and fiddle with the parameters directly.

 

For best results, recommend printing with a 0.6 mm nozzle, ABS or ASA for the box, lid and clasps, TPU for the gasket (optional).

 

Customisation

Click the Customise button to edit the various parameters and fit the box to your needs. Users customising on Maker World and intending to slice the model with a PC based slicer, can use the parametric_box_complete.f3d file. This file contains all components in a single file, it's easiest to customise them all in one place. However, the parametric_box_complete.f3d file is not compatible with the Bambu Handy app as the gasket needs to be printed in a separate material and on a separate build plate, something that slicing through the Bambu Handy.

 

As the screws are driven in parallel to the layer lines, and need to bite into and engage with the plastic to remain secure, it is likely to split the hinge and clasp loops if the screw diameter setting and clearances are not set correctly. Therefore, it's recommended to start with the included test hinge model so screw diameter settings and slicer settings can be fine tuned before attempting to print a full box.

 

For Bambu Handy users, there is the option to use the parametric_box_complete_no_gasket.f3d file, which doesn't include the optional gasket and so can be sliced on a single plate. Alternatively, there are also individual customisation files for each separate part, which allows users to make use of the maximum size of the printers build plate to print larger boxes where the lid and base may not fit on a single plate together. Be aware that it's critically important that when customising parts individually, exactly the same settings must be used for each part to ensure they fit properly during final assembly.  

 

Inspiration

This model is heavily inspired by Whity's Rugged Box (Parametric) over on Printables, but this is an original design in so far as it's been designed from ground up in Fusion and is not simply a modified version of Whity's original file. Please go check out his original if you're interested.

 

Updates

2026-01-30: The fusion file has been updated to make the generator more robust. It should now be possible to increase the rib_rim_thickness and shell_thickness. The shadow line depth can now also be customised, and the width of the gasket and shadow line features will now automatically adjust based on rim thickness. Big chunky boxes should now be easy to make without breaking the model.

 

2026-04-11: Added individual customisation files for each part and the no gasket file to allow Bambu Handy users to generate and slice models within the app without the need to use a PC based slicer to rearrange larger parts across multiple build plates or remove the optional gasket part before slicing.

 

2026-06-11: Fixed broken lid geometry when resizing lid internal Z height.

 

2026-07-01: Fixed oversized gasket and added test hinge model to allow users to more easily fine tune model and printer settings before printing a whole box.
