Description

As my initial stargate project (this was my very first upload here some months ago!) was cloned somehow I decided to also add an improved V2 with some modifications.

What changed:

  • the housing is smaller → less filament usage / less space usage!
  • the gate holders are optimized → may have a look to the second video! assembly of the gates and the holders is now really really easy!
  • plug & play with WLED → you can use any board you like. is used this one → https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CLGTSH3N?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

What do you need:

The filament I used:

Assembly (whole video guided assembly divided in parts):

Solder the Stripes:

Assemble the Gates & HOW TO AVOID PITFALLS!!

Flash WLED to ESP8266 or others:

Glue the Board to the Housing:

Assembly of → light shields, diffusors, stripe, gates & housing:

Configuring WLED:

If I forgot anything or if you experience any problems just write me :)

BR,

B@sti

Really pretty model. My wife and I are big Stargate fans so this was a must do! Tolerances were crazy tight, but otherwise no issues at all. Thank for uploading!

this looks amazing 🤗 thx for sharing! did you brush the gate? it looks a bit darker compared to the gif. which tolerances do you mean exactly - the ones from the red activators or the gate holders? I wanted to improve the tolerances for the activators but recognized that the walls were that thin that they were not even sliced (I did not checked the "print thin walls" box). I had it on my todo list but it seems I forgot to fix it 🙈 Nevertheless it's working but it makes it a bit more challenging 😋

I did do a quick and dirty wash of the gate to give it that ancient weathered look. I had a heck of a time getting both the stand seated and the two halves of the gate together with the LEDs I was able to source. I ended up gluing the gate together to make it hold. The activators slipped on like a glove. Thanks again for the design!

you're welcome :) thx for your response! is there any generic tutorial for giving it that ancient look? ..because I can't imagine what you did exactly :P yep - I also needed some tries (see the video) to completely get it together but in the end it worked :)

I finally done it! I'm in love with it haha awesome design! Just a little of rework with the tolerances to get everything to fit, specially with the LEDs haha but everything went perfect at the end, 10/10 <3

yehaaa :) this looks like an exact clone of mine :) very cool!! hehe - jep - the LEDs don't make fun. when I was recording that video it took more than 10 minutes because it was always slipping out again :P what exactly did you have to rework? I can try to improve this. thx for posting and voting!

I always order 5m as I also use them with other projects. There are ways on Ebay and also on Amazon to get only ~1m or 1.5m but these are in relation to the 5 meters much more expensive. May have a look to my other projects then you can re-use the leds which are left.

I just run out of gold :P but it was enough to finish the stargate parts.. by the way - if you already downloaded the model -> do it again. I improved the tolerances for the gateholders. It was possible to insert the gates to the holders but it was a pain in the ass.. I should have spent the 30 minutes to improve the model directly instead of torturing myself to get them in :P

Just ordered all the parts needed. If it all works out I will follow up with the links for the American folks. I did a mixture of Amazon and AliExpress. Building this for my dad as he is a huge fan of the show and he is constantly watching it, so will be a nice gift :)

Great Job man! I need to build that too!! But I would like to fork it one day. I have once seen a Version with moving chefrons and activator with lights. But I really like the effects.

thank you very much :) yep - I know which one you mean: https://thestargateproject.com/ I also created such an infinite mirror for my v1 but the effect was not so good with the printed diffusors. I also thought about lighting the activators but this would overwhelme most of the people and noone would print it. So I decided to leave it as is.
