Description

A fun play on a butterfly suncatcher, inspired by the weirdness in my brain and the death's head hawkmoth. Hang it in a window where the sun likes to shine. Printed at 1mm thickness, light should easily travel through and illuminate the image similar to the front of a lightbox.

If you live in a hot climate…. PLA printed this thinly may not be the best choice! :) If you try with transparent PETG, let us know!

hard ton print, hard to change color, hard to have a good finish, but very nice.

Thanks for the feedback! I used a 3d effect plate and got a really nice specular finish using the bottom of the model for the "front" presentation. For changing colors, I'd recommend to only swap filament colors but keeping them assigned to the parts as-is. There are a lot of individual bodies to achieve the detail, so I didn't anticipate anyone putting much effort into customizing it beyond basic filament color assignment! :) My best tip for a good shot at a clean print on models where the first layer has all the detail is to clean your build plate before starting the print and to ensure filaments are all calibrated individually. Adhesion loss or under/over extruding can leave unwanted defects in the image. I personally find Dawn Powerwash convenient and the added alcohol to the particular solution seems to give it just that little extra.
