Description

A large cryptex-style container for gifting wine/liquor/similarly shaped items. The combination is adjustable by changing the position of the notched inner number ring (keyed sleeve.stl) to align the notch with the desired code number (number sleeve.stl). The box is fully 3d printed. You will need to make 1 each of the inner cylinder/outer cylinder/lock nut, and 8 each of the keyed sleeves/number sleeves. To assemble you insert the keyed sleeve into the number sleeve and stack all the assembled sleeves onto the outer cylinder. The lock nut is then screwed on to retain all the rings. With the combination entered you can slide the inner cylinder into place and rotate the numbers to lock.

To print the full box on a Bambu printer requires going into the machine settings in Bambu Studio and modifying some settings. I've also uploaded a slightly shortened box that will fit in the default printer settings. This brings the internal length down from 13in to 12.5 in which should be plenty for a wine bottle and most single malts.

Here is a link to the wiki on how to enable the full print volume.

the model is cool but sliced profile is crap - random z seam looks horrible und the inner rings are placed the wrong way round on the build plate so it has to print in the air und turns out badly

Not sure how that happened, I went back and flipped all the rings. It's certainly designed to print without support.

thanks for that 😃- also may i ask you how you solved the issue when turning on the nut and algining the slot that the slot gets squized together so the slot is to small to enter the top part? i am currently reprinting the nut at 100.15% to if it is any better…

Well I never had that problem so there was nothing to solve. It's supposed to be a rather loose fit since its stopped from rotating by the upper shell. I'll slice up a test print and try it out after work though, as I've never actually ran it on a Bambu printer.

I decided to go with a smaller version. Great result, thank you.

This was a great print. I resized it down smaller as I didn't need it that big. Printed the main part in Bambu basic PLA, the rings in Bambu Silk PLA and the locking ring in Bambu basic PLA.

Sure thing. I've uploaded a blank number sleeve step file so you can modify it with any kind of markings you would like.

Too big for X1C plate

Sorry, I made this a few years ago so I've never actually printed it on an X1. The model is slightly under 256mm so I had assumed it would work. I just did a quick trim to make it fit without having to make any modifications to the printer's settings.

Really cool thing, you can set the 8-digit code yourself and the rotation runs smoothly

Great model. There seems to be a slot for a cam to hold each individual dial from turning together, did you put something in there that worked or do I just need to make and print some little nubs?

A good print. I scaled it down to 90% as I don't need it for an actual wine bottle and I was having issues with sizing the rings to my build plate. 90% worked well though.
