Description

New Smooth AMS Gen2 for Hydra Mod.

Thanks to @firemanjc, we developed the Hydra version of my Gen2 Smooth AMS. He did an outstanding job providing the information I needed to design it properly. Hydra mod is an extreme design with an undesirable, steep feeding angle.

Here is my solution. A variation of my popular Smooth AMS Gen2.

This is designed For the Hydra Mod. But it would work fine in an unmodified AMS.

📢 Issue Addressed:

  1. Smooth the jumping of the near-empty spool.
  2. Reduce the AMS forces required to feed the filaments.
  3. The PTFE tube acts like a fishing line to keep a smooth and even feeding.
  4. Reduces friction.
  5. Prevent the filament from eating the AMS feeding funnel or anything.

Yep, it's not the only one out there.

📢 What is distinctive about it;

  • NO ROOM IS TAKING FROM THE SPOOL.
  • More compact but still as strung. (4.25g per unit and print 50% faster).
  • It can be printed in PLA, but I strongly recommend using minimum ABS, PETg, or better.
  • Yes, you can use any monster desiccant box.

I highly recommend my Slim Desiccant box. You don't need to remove the spool when refreshing it.

Have fun in the MOD adventure.

Printed well but the angle seems too steep between the PTFE and the feeder entry. Like it needs to be more vertical, but if course this isn't possible with the lid's design.

Hey Rick, do you have the Hydra Modification in your AMS? If not, get this one for the unmodified AMS; https://makerworld.com/en/models/128483#profileId-139112 Thanks for downloading it and giving feedback. I do appreciate it. I invite you to look at my other solutions for BBL's little corks.

Hydra Mod is an extreme modification to accommodate a spool that shouldn't be in the AMS. Everything is stretched above the limit of what an AMS can take. When I designed that, I had to do the same and add a steep angle. It's the price to pay to be able to accommodate a spool that should not be in there. I designed and tested 8 angles, which is what it took to make it work. I don't like it. I think Hydra is a cool project but I would not put that in my AMS.

I‘m using a modified Hydra version and would like to adopt your design and change some bits. Step file would be very helpful 😉

I'm happy you appreciate. Yes, the Hydra mod need it really badly. Hydra is not a mod I recommend. It sound good and fun but the reality it hard on the first stage, the feeding system and the filament. It is to fit spool that should not be in that printer to start with. Well enjoy and you can look on my profile for other solution for the little corks the series P/X have.

actually it helped me with prusament filaments thanks to shape of rim they don't work on their own but this helped me with that and works fine. I hope bambu will add support for them for reading since they got similar chips on spools

I never try Prusament filament. It's certainly a quality product but I don't know if they can go as fast as the BBL filament. They may have a RFID but I'm sure they can't read etch other. The location of the RFID, the encryption, the line of commend, the data distribution and the matching matrices need to be the same. I can't imagine two company agreeing on some compatibility. But we can dream ;-) I'm glad I could help you.

I printed and installed this but could not get them to work right. Not sure what I am doing wrong but I can't get the filament to feed thru the PTFE tube into the AMS hole. it just doesn't line up and I can't push it in.

Please take a picture. It must be pushed until it's flush with the front of the first stage. When you feed the filament in, you still need to push the button to line everything up. Let me know if you still have an issue Thanks
