Description

Updated 2/2/2024 - Added some width to the front teeth and rounded the tips. Should further reduce chance of teeth breaking. Care is still required when removing supports.

Supports

Supports are required. Recommended settings:

  • Enable support
  • Tree supports (Default supports can't reach everything from the build plate)
  • Support on build plate only
  • Support critical regions only (We need to avoid supports inside the mouth).
  • Paint additional supports under the chin and jaw (to prevent tip-over)
  • Paint supports under the ear (My slicer didn't think the ears were critical. They are).

Alternatively, you can manually paint supports on the key areas: upper lip, front teeth, chin, lower jaw, the front-most spike on the cheek, the ears, the low points on the wings, and the five spikes that run down the back. See the images for a visual representation of the critical support points.

You can add additional supports if you want, but it's important to avoid supports in the mouth. You will probably never be able to get them out.

Or you can use the print profiles available. They were created in Bambu Slicer. I'm unsure what slicers it is compatible with.

Be careful when removing supports around the teeth. I've made the teeth large so they shouldn't break off, but some care is still required.

Infill

Normal infill settings are fine. I also had good success with lightning infill, which saves a significant amount of filament. I do not recommend lightning infill with Silk PLA, though. Silk PLA has poor layer adhesion. You will need additional infill to ensure that it doesn't fall apart at the layer lines.

Multi-Color

There is a multi-color print available. It comes in 4 pieces. Just import all the pieces at the same time and then color them as desired. In all honesty, unless you have multiple tool heads, the multi-color print is likely an epic waste of filament (mine purged over 3x the material for the actual model). It is darned cute, but you can still get good results from the single-color model without throwing away a quarter roll of filament.

This rating is on the lightning print profile, NOT the design which I really like. I had 2 attempts fail back-to-back due to supports which I'm looking into. However, when I looked the model, the bottom layer is non-existent. The 0.2mm initial layer/0mm bottom shell thickness/2 bottom layers AFAIK that means the bottom layer is at best 4mm. It is definitely thinner than the walls for sure as evident in the picture. I'm tweaking now and will post the new profile if I can get it to work.

I believe the failed prints are mostly related to bed adhesion issues with the Microcenter Inland filament as I saw others complaining of the same thing. I'm going to bump up the profile rating as a result but still the bottom layer was way too thin. I will post the updated print profile I used.
