Telescope Night Light Lamp 

(with Tripod and Moon & Sun Litho)

 

This is a fully articulated, highly detailed replica model of a telescope which is also a delightful night light lamp.  It uses parts from Bambu's Makerlab kit, specifically the Remote Controlled RGBW Puck Lights

 

After printing the telescope, simply push fit the Pucks into the telescope endcap - one facing downwards, the other facing upwards - That's it!

 

What's included?

  • a highly detailed, fully articulated telescope with a ‘realistic effect’ adjustable focuser & lens
  • a real effect, adjustable Starfinder alignment scope
  • a fully articulated tripod that is foldable and allows for realistic movement of the telescope - tilt, up/down & left/right 
  • separate decorative fixings and caps that allow you to print them in the colours that you like the most
  • two lithos, these are real images of the Moon and there is another one of the Sun (see below for details on how to make your own)
  • a holder for the remote control and the additional Sun litho
  • a gift box - if you would like to gift it as a construction set

     

How to assemble the scope and tripod?

Simply download the Assembly Instruction Guide for visual details on how to put it together

 

No additional screws or glue are required. It is very easy to put together. I'd recommend using the supplied print profile and Bambu's Matte filaments. I've tested the print multiple times, and on all of the components it results in a beautiful finish and with excellent tolerances. It does have a quality look and feel

 

The articulations operate exactly the same as a real telescope and tripod. So, slightly unscrew the handle to tilt the scope up or down, and then tighten it to keep it in place. I have designed the vertical tripod joint to specifically prevent over rotation on the Z-axis.  To rotate clockwise/anti-clockwise, slightly undo the knurled knob on the side and then swivel the scope around, then tighten up the knob when done

 

Lights

This is the easiest part of the whole setup, once inserted just point the remote at the front lens, press ON and the front light comes on. Point it at the side, Press On and the whole body lights up.  If you play around with angles you can use the remote to light it up in multiple different modes and colours, its pretty mesmerizing.  I found myself staring at it literally for an hour 😊

 

“… a quick note if you're not familiar with Lithos” - these are 3D renders of an image that use density of a material to create depth and shadow. So, the included lithos are in fact real images of the Moon and the Sun. When you turn on the front light it literally looks like you're staring at the real moon, you can see its craters!  

 

If you want to create your own lithos, and you really can use any image (maybe a pet photo??) - go to Make My Litho on Bambu's website, set the depth to 3mm, and once created & downloaded, use your favourite CAD program - Tinkercad, Fusion, Blender… and resize it to a circle that is 64mm in diameter and 3mm in depth. It will then slip nicely into the endcap of the scope

 

 

Potential use cases

  • Bedtime Lamp - a beautiful solution for those night time book reads with children, set the remote to ‘Smooth’ and it will gently rotate through all the colours of the rainbow, and then set the timer function to 60mins (or 30) and it will help your precious little ones' drift gently to sleep, and then switch itself off

     

  • Light Stimulation - it can work extremely well for anyone who benefits from light stimulation

     

  • Educational - I am very happy for teachers to use this model, in a non-commercial aspect and as an educational tool. It can be used for all of the Sciences, Maths, Engineering and Technology - your only limitation is your imagination
     "As a Teaching Tool, my only request is that you include the attribution, Plate 7 model or a printout of the QR Code and present it with the model to your audience"

 

  • a gift - I've included a container which will hold all of the loose pieces in one place. It would make a great educational gift package, perhaps for slightly older children, and maybe for those who are interested in astronomy, science or engineering?
