Developing these models is a true labor of love, but it requires significant time, effort, and numerous tests to ensure they are easy to print. Each test print uses filament, and perfecting the models can take many iterations.

This is the completely revised version 2 of the ever-popular v1.0. 😃

Improvements

  • Larger boxes for more silica gel.
  • The boxes solve a problem of v1.0: They can now be removed from the AMS much more easily.
  • Vertical and angled placement of the rectangular hygrometer.
  • Support for the ever-popular round hygrometer.
  • Funnel for easier filling of the silica gel (okay, that wasn't my idea, I copied it from here 🙈).
  • Funnel holder for IKEA SKÅDIS (However, THIS IS my idea! 

For printing, I used PETG-HF in Black and PETG-HF in Gray, both😃) from Bambu Lab. I can and would like to recommend this filament without reservation! The quality of the prints is truly first-class. It also has a feature that is too important to keep quiet: It does not shrink and the accuracy of fit of the parts is breathtaking! I didn't have to add the usual 0.2mm buffers anywhere. It's just not necessary.

 

The rectangular hygrometer I used is the "Thlevel Mini LCD Digital Thermometer Hygrometer" from Amazon.

The round version is the “Mini Digital Hygrometer Gauge Indoor Thermometer” from Amazon.

NOTE

As it has often been noted here that the printed housing has broken when installing the hygrometer, I would like to point out that the clips on the rectangular hygrometer must be cut off before insertion. If these clips are removed, the box will not break.

works realy well, but i cant close my AMS clean. so if the the model would be 2mm smaler it would be perfekt

Hey Nomis, thanks for your feedback. Well, this is very interesting. I have two AMS and the boxes fit very well. Both devices can be closed. Maybe there are different revisions of the AMS out there. Anyways... I will update the model and shorten the boxes a bit.

Great design, fits perfectly. I don't know what the hole in the cap is for, thanks to it I've got some silica balls in my ams but whatever. Thanks!

Thanks Andrej. That hole, well... I thought it could be a good idea to have a hole for the finger, to get that box better out of the AMS. Well, looking at it more closely, this was probably a stupid idea. 😃 I will update it without that hole.

As mentioned before, I updated the model and added a cover without the hole but with Bambu logo instead.

Love the design. The dovetailed lids are very nice and the included funnel is a much-appreciated touch! I don't use the cheap hygrometers for my AMS since most of them are highly inaccurate, so I just printed a third module for the middle position that doesn't have the cutout for it (personal preference). I printed the dessicant modules in Polymaker PETG since that's the only PETG I have, and I used the Polymaker Polylite PETG profile in Bambu Slicer. Not very pretty as far as seams and blobs, but I suppose that could be alleviated if I spent some time tweaking the settings more. Not a big deal for a functional print at all! I will say though, the lids fit VERY tightly. That is likely a function of the PETG shrink factor, and while I'd much prefer them too tight as opposed to too loose, I would suggest that you add a small cylinder or tab on the top of each lid to allow more easy opening/closing. I printed the funnel in Polymaker Polylite PLA simply because it prints like butter in the X1C, and it turned out perfect. Other than that one minor suggestion about the lids, thank you for the excellent design! Oh, and please excuse the mess on my desk! 🙂

printed on x1c with bambu pla silver (silk) - fits perfect - used the original "designer profile" with supports habe zwei verschiedene AMS Versionen, passt für beide das Hygrometer ist noch auf dem Weg zu mir, werde aber auch die Nasen abschneiden, damit nichts ausbricht

That fits perfect in my AMS! But i don't know if the Hygrometer is really good :D Drops from 25% to 10% in about 2 hours. I don't know. But i think it will do the job very well! Thank you!

I had noticed the same. I think the problem is that the hygrometer is too close to the silica gel. I have now stopped filling the box with the hygrometer with the silica gel. Now the displayed values also seem much more plausible.

Fascinating watching the creation of these boxes, everything fits perfectly, and funnel is a very useful feature. I have completed two large boxes so far along with the funnel.

Printed perfectly, but I can't seem to pull them out without removing the spools first. I can see this being an issue when I want to swap out the damp gels.
