Description

Another wedge to lift the top glass of your Bambu printer when you need to vent for long prints.

This one firmly holds the glass top in place, is quick/easy to put on and take off, and doesn't require assembly or supports.

Lots of detail below, but the summary is that this clips onto the glass, then slides over around the handle, creating a firm grip that holds the glass up ~20mm (~¾"), creating a vent.

It can clip onto the door handle when not in use (an accidental perk - thank you to the reviewers who discovered this!).

Updated 2024-03-6 - The model has been updated and split into Tight Fit and Loose Fit versions.

- Tight Fit is very close to the same as the original design. This fits snugly around the glass and the handle.

- Loose Fit has larger tolerances around the glass and the handle.

Both versions were adjusted to avoid getting stuck on the screws on the bottom of the handle.

There are 2 new profiles, accordingly named Tight Fit and Loose Fit.

Each new profile has 4 different designs inside, 1 per plate. The designs are simply visual differences and are up to your preference. Just pick your favorite design and print that single plate.

Because multiple choices are bundled together, the filament usage and time estimates are wrong. The actual time and usage are about ¼ of those listed.

I'll keep the old profiles with the old models, but will label them as old.

How To

- Lift the glass up

- Clip the lifter on to the front of the glass to the right of the handle

- Push it all the way forward

- Slide it left until it stops against the handle (it's an intentionally snug fit)

- Lower the glass back down

“Locked” in place:

Recommended Print Settings

- Layer height: 0.20mm Standard

- Wall loops: 3

- Infill: 15%, Cubic

If printed standing on its right side, it shouldn't need supports or a brim (see pictures). The model should already be in this orientation when opening it.

This printed well and feels very sturdy in both Bambu PLA Basic and Sunlu PLA.

I'm open to feedback. Feel free to remix, but not sell.

Update History

2024 -03-06:

  • Adjusted width of the “screw channel” on the bottom lip to prevent the glass handle's screws from being in the way
  • Added Tight Fit and Loose Fit options for those running into issues with the fit being too tight
  • Changed numbers & arrows on top to engraved instead of embossed
  • Reworked and cleaned up the original CAD design
  • Minor visual changes

2024-02-11:

  • Added a version that includes a grip and uploaded 2 profiles for it (center hole and solid).
  • Made a minor change to the existing models to smooth out a sharp corner (no functional changes), and updated profiles.
  • Updated photos and description.

2024-02-03:

  • Description & picture revisions.
  • No model changes.

2024-01-28:

  • Replaced the STLs with higher quality exports from the CAD software and updated the print profiles with them.
  • There's no change to the design or functional geometry, but the curves look cleaner now.

2024-01-27:

  • Initial upload.

[Old Version] - Solid with grip
Update: the maker has modified the model and it now fits perfect. Really great practical model. Great print, the model is a little tight on the glass. Could probaly do with an extra 0.5mm

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. A few others have recently mentioned this, so I'm going to test updating it with more space in that gap. Do you happen to have calipers to measure the top glass thickness of your printer? I'm just curious if there are slightly different versions floating around; mine is 2.92mm thick.

Hey, I checked there and I'm getting 3mm. It's not a digital calipers but it's about 3. I actually thing the issue may be the screws on the bottom. It slides onto the glass perfectly, but when I slide to the left it only goes half way... The screws seem to be twords the back of the printer more than the channel to take the screws

That's very helpful, thank you! I see a few places I can add more "wiggle room" and will upload a looser fitting version soon.

i thought this was what I wanted because it seemed sturdy, but now I know it was what I needed… this piece can easily rest on your P1S handle not being used. amazing! ten stars!

Exactly what i hoped for. Now i can keep the upper glass lid open when printing PLA. Can be used together with the "AMS Riser V2 by maCyo42".

Great model. Printed the version with no hole and a grip and it holds the lid up very securely. Also love that it can be slid over the door handle when not in use.

works as intended, a bit too tight trying to slide it on the handle though

Thank you for the feedback. I wanted it to be snug, but not difficult. Hopefully it "loosens" a bit after repeated use.

Thanks for the rating and feedback! It works well for a quick print to set the glass on top of the model like this photo, and it'll hold the glass in place more firmly if you slide it "around" the glass (so the glass edge is partly inside the model).
