Description

Tapo C110 Focus Shims. There are a few different sizes depending on how far away you are needing to focus. These pair well with my A1 Modular Faceplate Mount. I ended up using the 0.05mm shim to achieve the focus I wanted.

On the plate there are 8 different sizes to try and one that looks different. Once you find the size that works best for you resize the piece that doesn't look like the others.

C110 Disassembly Instructions:

  • Use 4 guitar picks to shim in these 4 areas:
  • Once picks are in place use a pry tool or a small flat head to pop the black cover off by pulling up.
  • Release clips in red to free motherboard from chasis. Careful not to pull the speaker wire as you release it.
  • Remove the 2 screws from the bottom to release the camera lens.
  • Place focuser shim on top of motherboard between lens and CMOS sensor.
  • Tighten 2 screws on the bottom back down
  • Re-assemble unit once happy with focus.

do these bring the focus closer or further away?

The focus gets closer. With a 0.45 mm shim it was at around 3cm distance. I ended up to need a 0.05mm shim. Since I was unable to print that thin, I used a thin paper. shop receipts usually are quite thin.

I printed these with my Prusa, I am very happy with your tutorial to open the Tapo C110. We are using it in a bird nesting box and the focus is not really good for this. I did not yet manage to open the camera. Broke my prying tool, but I keep trying.
