Description

I found that grids, no matter the size, would slide away from each other and generally float around. So I had an idea to make life a little easier. CA glue sorta works for a little while but that is a mess. Also, I had no need to add a bazillion magnets to my grids and containers, at least at this time.

My Solution, SnapGridz!

  • Uses less filament than some grids and does not need metal fasteners.
  • I can print out grids ahead of time, keep them in a box, and snap them together when needed. It's a good use for those almost empty spools of filament.

A collection of various-size grids that can be snapped together with a bow-tie insert that keeps them together. I also came up with Cut-2-Fit spacers for the odd spaces from the edge of a grid to the side of a compartment that is narrower than a 1 x 1 Gridfinity grid. This keeps everything in place.

  • Simply insert the Bow-Tie connector from the bottom
  • Place on hard flat surface
  • and press down on the joint with the palm of your hand.

TIP: if the connector is not pressing all the way into the tabs, this could be caused by your extrution factor or the like.

You can tap the tab on each side with a little hammer or different item. This usually works.

If still too tight then shrink the object in the slicer 1%, and try that

Fit Testing (quick and frugal )

I created a test joint model. Print two of them and then test fit inserts.

Side Spacers:

I drew this up quickly and they work very well.

Instead of measuring and printing custom spacers, these can be cut to size. You may be left with a tiny 3mm or so gap but that is a non issue.

Quick and easy.

I have also included a PDF that lays out all the grids and dimensions so you can reference them when determining what you need to print for a given space.

Enjoy!
