Description

The Lunar New Year is almost upon us, and with it being the year of the dragon, I felt this was appropriate! It's entirely 3D printed, but the end result looks like it's an embroidered patch! If you need to resize this model, please only resize the X and Y dimensions and NOT the Z dimension!

The print model included (both the 3MF and the STL) are printed at 0.08mm layer height, however I also printed this at 0.04mm and the difference in quality was negligible. the 0.04mm version took approx. 10 hours, so I have decided to provide the profile for the 0.08mm layer height which will only take about 5 hours or so on a Bambu Printer.

If you need to resize this model, please only resize the X and Y dimensions and NOT the Z dimension!

The 3MF has the layer swaps already coded in for Bambu Studio/Bambu printers, and uses 5 colours. You can get away with 4 and drop the orange layer, I reckon! If you're not using a Bambu printer, download the STL and use the following instructions:

Printing Instructions:
Print at 100% infill with a layer height of 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.2mm

Filaments Used:
- PLA BambuLab Matte Charcoal Transmission Distance: 0.6
- PLA BambuLab Basic Red Transmission Distance: 5
- PLA CC3D Orange Transmission Distance: 8
- PLA CC3D Lemon Yellow Transmission Distance: 8
- PLA Kingroon White Transmission Distance: 8

Swap Instructions:
- Start with Charcoal
- At layer #7 (0.68mm) swap to Red
- At layer #11 (1mm) swap to Orange
- At layer #13 (1.16mm) swap to Lemon Yellow
- At layer #19 (1.64mm) swap to White for the rest.

I used a silk bronze and gold in between the red and white. Definitely see the embroidery. Very nice design.

Are the CC3D orange and lemon yellow filaments the PLA Max? Amazon shows a Flame Orange and Lemon Yellow in the PLA max. I want to duplicate your filaments because the orange and yellows I own have lower TD numbers?

Yep they’re those ones, however TDs between filament spools can vary, even on the same brand and same colours unfortunately. Filament manufacturers don’t really standardise the pigmentation for TD much to my disappointment :( But coming close enough will be good enough honestly!

What method do you use to determine the TD of the filaments you use?
