Description
Pixiu (pí xiū) is a ferocious auspicious beast recorded in ancient Chinese books and folk myths and legends, ranked alongside the dragon, phoenix, tortoise, and qilin as one of the five great auspicious beasts.
Legend says Pixiu is the last son of the dragon, one of the nine sons, each with unique characteristics. Its appearance is quite unique, with a dragon's head, a qilin's horn, a horse's body, and a lion's claws. Thus, it is also called "four unlike". It is born to swallow gold and silver without excreting, only taking in and never letting out. Moreover, it is ferocious and specializes in swallowing evil spirits, so some people call it Bi Xie.
