Description

This egg slicer has a print-in-place hinge with no supports needed.  It has a “snap” feature when it closes so that the wire is protected when it is stored. The slicer will cut extra large eggs and smaller.  I was not able to find jumbo sized eggs so I don’t know if they will work in the slicer. The wire is held with a “locking tab” that can be removed so the wire can be replaced if necessary.  The thickness of the “locking tab” may have to be adjusted depending on the wire gauge that is used.  The “locking tab” file that is in the download is designed for 28 gauge stainless wire which is .32mm in diameter.  I have included a complete drawing of the locking tab so you can adjust it for the wire gauge that you use.  There is an assembly drawing for putting the wire in place.  I printed the slicer with PLA at 0.20-, 0.16-, and 0.08- layer thicknesses to see if the “snap force” was any different. There seemed to be a slight increase in force as the layer thickness got smaller, but I really did not have a way to measure it accurately.  The only difference was the finish at 0.08 was really nice. I used the default PLA settings. I think it goes without saying that you should not put PLA in the dishwasher so you will have to wash it by hand.
