Make use of those old spools!

 

Revolving office / work desk organizer made from a Bambu Lab spool. Pen/pencil cup on one side with a hidden drawer on the other. The ferris wheel can support 6-8 carriage boxes for all your office things like paperclips and USB drives. They are easy to print parts with minimal supports.

 

 

7 boxes work well for even distribution around the spinning ferris wheel spool.

 

There is also a side drawer in the center hole of the spool.

 

The design is stabilized with the pen cup doubling as a support.

 

Kind of tricky to assemble. The most difficult part is planning where to put the box button pivots. I think 7 boxes work the best, but 6 or 8 can work too.

 

Post processing is just removal of supports and clean up the support interface areas. Focus on smoothing out the jigsaw connection between the stand and cup. Also clean up the box joints so the boxes swing freely.

 

Assembly

 

I've taken pics of where I placed each button pivot and they can work without glue but I recommend a bit of glue for each. Also important to know is that the spool has inconsistent hole sizes! Some will not accept the pivot heads at all and some you can just push through. Use flush cutters to snip off some of the heads as needed to make the buttons fit where you want them.

  1. After setting the pivots, assemble the spool. Line up the Bambu Lab logos across from one another so that the spool's little hole grids are all in line.
  2. Insert each box by flexing the spool apart and ensure each box swings freely (else they will tip upside down during a revolution of the spool).
  3. Insert the stand's center support through the spool.
  4. From below, align the cup's rim into the stand's center support.
  5. With a small force, connect the stand to the cup by pressing the jigsaw joint together.
  6. Slide the drawer into the stand's center support.

First, this project requires patience and a little work. I found that the washers and drawers were too tight. Next, I broke it when pulling out trees. Then, getting the holes measured was annoying. Finally, it was all worth it! Once one side of washers glued in, just snap the spool back together and it is easy to visually line up the second hole. Polylite PLA Pro Metallic Red

Looks good! Sorry yours broke, my supports popped right off of my drawer. The boxes definitely require some sanding to round out the connections. I’m still learning to design, maybe I can think of a better solution eventually to reduce supports on the drawer and the boxes. Yours looks good in the end though! Great work

This is cool, but I can't think why I'd have a spare bambu spool lying around - don't you order refills and reuse your spools??

I don't have many spare bambu spools, but I do have several older plastic spools. I might see if I can adapt it to those. I figure I just have to drill some holes. I'll add a comment with photos if it turns out.
