Description

A Stylish Spiral Lamp Designed To Print In 'Spiral Vase' Mode

 

If you are unfamiliar with what 'Spiral Vase' or ‘Vase Mode’ is then this is a perfect model to demonstrate it!

 

Normally a 3D printer prints in multiple layers with several walls and some infill present at every layer.

In 'Spiral Vase' mode this is not the case. The printer will start normally by printing some base layers (20 in this case) to give a good foot print and ensure bed adhesion. It will then print 1 continuous wall from the very bottom, all the way to the top of the lamp with no retractions or stutters. This is a marvel to watch, shows off what a 3D printer can do and makes print times much, much quicker.

 

The design has to allow for this mode to be possible. It means there can be no extreme overhangs, bridges or gaps in the model and we also have to think about the final strength of the lamp considering it is only 1 wall thick. With this design, the wavy pattern is not only stylish and interesting to look at, it also serves the purpose of adding right angles and considerable strength compared to an equivalent smooth surface finish. Think of it like corrugated roofing sheets. They would be weak if flat, but the corrugation adds the considerable strength needed.

  • A very easy print
  • Only 65g of filament (Great for using up those end rolls)
  • Total print time is under 3 hours
  • Compatible with any LED puck style light up to 60mm
  • Compatible with the LED from the Bambu Lab Lamp Kit-001
  • Can be used with any light smaller than 60mm (The lamp would just sit over the top instead of nicely fitting the diameter of a 60mm LED)
  • No assembly required
  • Can be printed in a range of colours and materials (Solid colours work fine)

 

 

You can print this with your normal settings but the print time will increase to over 8 hours and use 4x as much filament.
