Description

Hello folks,

I've been using the Sturdy Meta Quest 3 mount (Link) for some time and it's an amazing design! However, some things bothered me:

  • The "spring" mechanism didn't provide enough pressure to keep the headphones firmly on the ears.
  • The sliding mechanism was not smooth, often skipping snapping points.
  • There is a risk of the headphone adapter breaking, but it required reprinting the entire arm.
  • The sliding mechanism had limited adjustment distance.
  • The mount was loose on the Quest's strap, necessitating additional tape for a secure fit.

To address these problems, I designed my own variant to enhance the experience, making it as seamless and smooth as possible:

  • A rubber band mechanism ensures consistent ear pressure and snaps back to the idle position.
  • Smooth sliding mechanism for easy positional adjustments.
  • Modular headphone adapter, allowing for easy replacement in case of failure.
  • The strap mount has been tightened for a secure fit without extra tinkering.

The .3mf file includes everything needed for two sets.

Additional Required Parts:

  • 2x M3x14mm rounded head screws.
  • 8x M2x6mm hex socket head bolts.
  • Small rubber bands, like those "Rainbow Loom" bands. Adjust the amount and size according to your preferred pressure force.
  • Drivers from the Koss KSC75 (recommended) or Koss Porta Pro

Building Instructions:

  • Simply snap everything together and insert the screws into the corresponding holes. The process is quite straightforward. Refer to the images as a guide. I've also made a video to demonstrate the build process and make it easier for everyone. You can find it here:

Printing Instructions:

  • Default settings. Use tree support for the clips.
  • I've used PETG but anything like PLA is fine.

I have the elite strap and thus it's made for that. For other straps some editing to the clip might be necessary.

If you have any feedback, let me now!

Have a great day!

Absolutely love this idea. I went ahead and remixed it to work with my BoboVR S3 strap! Thanks for the upload!

Thanks for remixing for S3. I'm copying the same comment I made for the parent model: I didn't have M- type screws and none were sold in those small sizes in my local hardware store. Instead I used some small wood screws I had on hand: I was able to use #4 x 1/2 inch wood screws in the smaller holes for holding rubber bands. Smaller diameter screws would be better since it was a very tight fit, but it worked out. I didn't have to bore out the hole, but it did take some patience. I used a #5 x 5/8" wood screw for the two 'hinge' screws instead of M3x14mm. One of them is flush, but the other for some reason has its 'point' slightly poking out. I might file it down the edge a touch to make sure it doesn't scratch me and screw it back in. I got those tiny rubber bands at Walmart for about $3. P.S. Koss Porta Pro driver = SportaPro Driver = KCS35 Driver; these drivers are all exactly the same, but the Sportapro are usually much cheaper. Just a note to others who want that driver. The KCS75 is a different driver, but it is even cheaper than the Sportapro so that may be the cheapest option since the headband/clips don't matter to you. A lot of online reviews say they acoustically are similar, with slight differences. I kind of doubt it will matter too much to most people doing this mod, so I would suggest you buy any of those that is cheapest for you, whether new or open box to shave off a few more bucks. Absolutely fantastic guide and video. Thanks much for this. I'm using @porksnout 's modification for the S3 but your video really helped me make sure I understood what I was putting together and their orientations. I'll try to remember to post a picture in case others have trouble sourcing M screws of those sizes without overpaying for shipping on a big pack when they only need a few. P.S.
