Description

This Flexigrid fidget toy is printed in a vertical gradient using just two filament colors. Rather than requiring specialty gradient filament, the effect is achieved through a layered color technique: the model is sliced into thin horizontal segments, with color gradually shifting from the base (Color A) to the top (Color B). As the printer lays down each layer, your eye blends the colors into a smooth transition.

The effect is especially striking with translucent PLA filaments—such as the new Bambu Lab Translucent series—which allow light to pass through and interact with underlying layers. This creates a blended appearance that mimics real gradient filament.

Opaque filaments can also be used, but the transition will appear as visible bands instead of a smooth fade. For a clear comparison, try printing one in black and white: the banding is easy to see. A translucent version softens those steps into a more natural gradient.

This model prints in place and is fully functional as a Flexigrid fidget toy. Each tile can slide vertically in relation to its neighbors.

Note: Ideally, the fidget should be printed on an H2D printer. H2D’s two extruders allow it to switch between colors quickly for each layer with minimal filament waste and time. However, it can also be printed on any Bambu Lab printer that has an AMS—it will just take longer and use more filament due to purging between color changes.
