Description

Work tray for small projects like Arduino, assembling models, etc. Keeps your current project isolated from the rest of your desk/workbench, with a main compartment, two side compartments and a Gridfinity area for your tools and additional part storage. The tray is solid enough you can pick the whole thing up (tools parts and all) and move to a different spot. The tray is designed to use up most of the suggested build volume for a Bambu printer.

The main compartment features a removable 14x14x2 cm work mat.

You can replace it or use different materials depeneding on your needs and preferences. I included several mats in the project; two grids (one in inches the other centemeters), one with angled lines and blank mat. If you plan on swapping mats a lot I recommend using one of the ‘cut out’ versions so you have an easier time picking it up. The mats can be multi-color printed by pausing/swapping filaments starting a 1.8 mm (or layer 9 in the included profile) with or without an AMS

The back area is a 2x6 ‘weighted’ Gridfinity baseplate so you have all the usual options of adding magnets, weights etc. I'm using a combination of the Rugged Organizer along with some assorted standard Gridfinity bins.

printed fine but will be repeat printing with pla support material to get the underside better on the overhangs, will also be changing the infill pattern as grids visible in the top surface

Appreciate the feedback and picture @SimplyModels ... the Gridfinity 'weighted' baseplates overhangs require some challenging bridging. Based on your feedback I added a print profile with "Remove overhangs" version of the tray where most of the bottom is filled in (if you don't wanna add weight inserts).

I'll print one 👍 I added support material and supports which has worked but I need to print another 10trays so this will be quicker

works better, only other thing I'd change is the grid infill to triangles and 20% infill so the top comes out smoother. useful tray 100%

wow really like how you sliced the additional colors in your print!

To save a little filament, I removed a126x126 square in the center of the work area, which ended up working beautifully. The frame retains its strength and ease of movement, magnets are still an option in the skeletonized rear area and it's easier for me to swap mats with my gorilla hands by pushing up from below. I had fun by adding some color too, as I admired the way @tjhallberg did his. @Dev_IT - thank you for the excellent design. It's a great way to minimize clutter and distractions when working on smaller projects.

I really like this design, but as the designer mentioned might happen, ran into some pretty severe issues where the print lifted along the edges and ruined the print (Blue version pictured). Instead of bumping up the build plate temp, I wanted to see if reducing some of that surface area might help, and the (to me) unnecessary overhangs underneath the back 2 Gridfinity rows bugged my little OCD brain goblin, so I went with a slight remix by replacing that section with a 2x6 'Skeletonized' version of the baseplate with no screw holes using the "Gridfinity Generator" at https://gridfinity.perplexinglabs.com/. That eliminated the overhangs entirely and provided great results with the exact same print profile (Grey version pictured below). There is still a small area along the left side where it's not perfect, but it is very serviceable and saves a bit of filament. I'll post the remix in case anyone has the same issues.

love it I used TPU for the mat and it's perfect.

Surface area is too broad without helper disks or some other form of adhesion proofing this one. One corner consistently pulled up, ruining the print, until I added a nice wide brim. I solved it (for me) by enabling a brim and removing a large square in the middle of the 'mat' area, which seemed to help things cool down a bit more uniformly and resolved the issue.

Great print, no warping. I just cut up my old silicone mat to fit into the 14x14 square.
