Description

Ok internet people, I spent way too much time on this, just so you could take a moment, print it once, and never use it again. But I love punishing myself in CAD and this was a good way to practice. I also wanted a model that required no supports and used minimal filament.

 

Update: A note on alignment. The End Caps are marked with triangles and squares. One is LH thread, one is RH thread. Match them up to the barrrel like some sweet game of, well, Match.

 

Also, I spent a silly amount of time adjusting the screw threads with chamfers and math and offsets so they actually screw in nicely. I mean this was something that really annoys me about models, so I seriously spent more time on this, than the rest of the model likely.

 

Spoiler Alert about the Modular Spool Holder:

It's modular. Yep, it's right in the name.

 

But what is modular in this case? Each barrel (spindle?) holds a 1KG spool, but to attach the hooks you screw in end caps, which forms a cradle. But what if you want to attach more than a single spool on your closet rod? I got you fam. You can print the Interconnect and screw TWO barrels together. The Interconnect (I'm going to call it IC now cause it's a lot to type) has screw threads on each side, and a cradle in the middle.

 

[Hold up - I forgot I extended the hooks by 1mm to make them beefier boyz, I gotta go fix that IC cradle. I am glad we talked through this.]

 

Ok, I'm back, that wasn't too bad.

 

So you can make a single 1KG, combine multiple for 2KG spools, or just simply keep extending them along your entire closet rod.

 

I made the hooks two different sizes, 26mm diameter and 23mm diameter. The 23mm fit nicely on the barrels, but the 26mm work too, so you can adjust the hooks to the diameter of the closet rod you're attaching this to. The slide out kind have a skinnier 23mm and a fatter 26mm typically.

 

Also, if you end up with an IC on the end and don't want that ugliness, I made an end cap for each thread config.

 

TLDR;

  1. It's modular
  2. Match the shapes
  3. Endless ability to add on
  4. 1kg, 2kg, or maybe 60kg spools. Wait, it isn't tall enough for that, stick with 1kg and 2kg.
  5. The THREADS, they are MINT!
  6. Boost me yo, I wanna get famous!
