Description

What - Extendable SFFPC case design - can handle GPU up to 380mm with ease.

Why - Future compatibility.

How - Utilized MakerBeam 300x10x10 Alum. extrusion rails. 3D printed Frame offers some extension so your long gpu can fit effortlessly.

What's in the pic: Asrock B650i ITX mobo, Noctua NH-C14S, RTX3080FE, SF850, 1x 2.5 SSD in the front. No case fan but you can install them using the alum. extrusion rails. I have used 3D effects sheets to get the reflective patterned finish.

What else needed beside filament:  MakerBeam Rails $15 and their bolts and nuts $19

M3 heat-inserts and M3 Stand-off 6mm (Links are affiliate links.)

ABS/PETG recommended for the parts “inside the case”; for “outside the case” parts can be anything, I have used PLA and it does not deform. Side note: do not let your kids choose the colors, otherwise u will end up with a funky case like mine.

Outside the case parts are in zip file. You can reference them to make your own cover panels.

Lesson learned:

I have a mad respect for case designers now. Coming up with stylish design while maintaining functionality and tolerance is no easy task. This design is simplified and hacked few steps and it still took me few days to finally push it out. Plastic is plastic and plastic bends! It will never meet metal material structure unless you make it 10x thick. So you will have some gaps and seems on where your panels meet.

What's next?

Use less expensive hardware (these t-nuts and bolts can add up quickly). Maybe I should use magnets for the outer parts.

I'm working on 100% parametric design that will update according to your preferred dimensions.

More options besides traditional style - Sandwich, Console, 1u Rack, Tower etc. but it really does take time.

We will see!
