Description

This beautiful snail lamp by toolmoon prints great if you are confident in your bridging and overhangs. It can be printed with no supports however I thought I'd add a little in a few spots under the base (to prevent some small stringing at 2 specific bridge points), and a spot under the shell shade at one of the harder angles just in case. Left it mostly up to the quality of cooling so that the result is cleaner without support material roughing any surfaces. There's also a raft on the shade since its very thin and not much touches the bed. Its recommended, but you can also turn this off if you choose.

The shade is printed at 100% infill but the base is only 10%. There are two little snap in links that hold the shade to the base on the plate with the base as well. LEDs or a tBulb B can be used, I'm sure most people have something laying around that'll work though.

The overhangs have very little quality due to the lack of supports, the profile is conservative so as not to hinder the function of the translucent lamp. Especially the shell where the defects are even more noticeable.

How did you get a separate color for the base of the snail? just paint it all a separate color in the slicer and let the AMS do the work?

The base in the photo was painted post print. The only thing that prints different color is the shell since its on a different plate

I printed this and it came out beautifully. I used translucent green. I would love to have the black low tones like you have yours, and now I'm learning the basics of painting. Did you use a paint wash on it, wait to dry, then remove the high spots, or how did you accomplish it? I absolutely love this design. Sorry for asking so many questions, the way you made it is perfect!

A little bit of air brushing, but also becuz I obviously super imposed the model on a nature background to "bring it to life" more, I played with some of the lighting and shadows so they appear a little deeper than they actually are

Can you show me what the bottom should look like on the snail portion?

What do you mean? The base and the snail are the same part. Only the shell is a separate piece. The profile example was painted post print if thats what you are confused about

Sorry for the confusion. I was wondering about the bottom of the bass but I think I figured out my question. Thanks for the cool design! It printed great!
