Description

My son has been asking for a “Lightning Buzz Jetpack” for a few weeks now, and after using my sub-par CAD skills to make something, I figured I'd share it in case someone else wanted it for their kid(s). Also, this is my first multi-part model so feel free to critique it, there is lots of room for improvement.

Instructions

Printing/Assembly should roughly go like this:

  1. Print the body
  2. Print 2x wing_base
  3. Print 2x wing_green
  4. Print 2x stripes
  5. Assemble the wings by sliding the green part halfway onto the base/purple. Slot the stripes in one at a time (screenshot below)
  6. After all stripes are on for each section, slide them all the way on so everything lines up
  7. Super glue the wing sections onto each other, and then onto the base.
  8. Print 1x wing_ends
  9. Print 1x wing_tips
  10. Glue wing ends onto the… ends… of the wings
  11. Using the printed pegs, align and glue the wing_tips in place (they'll fit on either side, but nautical law would say that red should be on the left/port side
  12. Print 1x flames, body_stripes, turbine, and body_markers
  13. Glue them all onto the recesses on body

Notes

  • Almost everything has been modeled with a 0.2mm tolerance
  • All of the stripes will lock into place except the smallest red one. You'll have to glue that one in place
  • There are 30mm channels to route straps through the body. You can buy some straps off Amazon or use fabric you have and print some quick release buckles
  • The wings do not fold in
  • The wings are wider than most interior doors, and may snap off if your kid runs full breakneck speed through a doorway while screaming “TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!” at the top of their lungs

This is the best thing i've printed so far. My wife finally gave approval of the printer that randomly showed up at the door last month. My kid loves it! Printed great and surprisingly fast, only thing was the tolerance for putting the red and white pieces on the purple track is tight. It took a lot of force and cut my self twice when I applied the force but totally worth it! Thank you!

Seeing this has made my day! Sorry to hear about the tolerances being too tight, I'll have to go back and see if I can increase them a little bit to make it easier. Looks like it came out great, and happy that both your kid enjoys it and it has won wife approval 😆

Our daughter thought this was awesome. She has worn it a couple times, but she finds it uncomfortable, maybe because of the straps we bought. Still worth the long print. It's a cute decor piece with all her birthday decorations. We left one section off the wings. After printing it all, we realized she wouldn't fit through a standard door frame without turning, which we knew she wouldn't do. So the wings in the photos are shorter than the actual design.

It turned out fantastic! Did you need to change the scale of the main module?

Very happy with the model and the final output! Using the picture as a guide, it took me about 30 minutes for assembly and gluing. I did not have to make any changes to the model and everything printed perfectly on the first attempt. Thank you for sharing this model! Printed in PLA on a Bambu A1.
