This is a replacement mount that connects to the bottom of a DLSR camera using a standard screw. Many other types of mounts such as go pro mounts with a screw could also be used with the base plate. This mount is used for quick release tripods that use tension with a cam on one side and an angled groove on the other to hold it in place. There are many of these generic tripods and the dimensions are not all the same.
I started this project by remixing Ottonet's YATMo - Yet Another Tripod Mount, and then made a few alterations using basic tinkercad and calipers to measure my own tripod. The angles do not need to be exact to get a good lock. It took a few iterations, but the part is small so the cost of iteration is not too much, still less expensive then purchasing and hoping it fits.
This include a 3D printed screw from the original YATMo model that works well with my camera. For heavy use you may want to invest in a metal screw of the appropriate size. If you are resizing the model, fill in the existing hole after scaling and then make a new cylinder cut out of 5.6mm which gave me a good tight fit. My version is also a bit different as I made the side connecting to the camera fully solid instead of two pieces due to stringing during prints. I get the best results when the mount was printed on its side.
The mount is secure enough for casual use on the tripod. If you want to decrease slippage use some type of rubber/washer to add friction. Once you get the right size this can allow for quick and easy switching between various cameras or mounts pre-positioned.
If you use the 3D printed screw and it get stuck, see original YATMo page for advice. Please test your screw before putting it through the base plate.
