Description

This is a compact carrying case for the popular 3D Catan set (w/ expansion) linked below:

https://makerworld.com/en/models/179323-settlers-of-catan-base-game-5-6-player-expansion#profileId-197226

 The case includes the following:

  • Primary Structure - Holds hexagonal board pieces. Includes handle and sturdy easy release clips to access pieces
  • Accent Color Blocks - Bonded into tight fit pockets on primary structure to designate resource locations. Separated from primary structure to minimize waste and print times.
  • Player Game Piece Case - Case for all game pieces for a single player. Easily change color of cover to match your game piece colors
  • Bank - Holds up to 2 full sets of playing cards and the cover has space for 6 magnetic building cost cards
  • Harbor Case - Includes space for docks, ships, and resource tokens
  • Accessories Case - Includes space for number tokens, dice, robber, and largest army/longest road trophies
  • Building Cost Cards - Magnetic
  • Largest Army and Longest Road trophies
  • Alternate Logos and Artwork - Easy customization based on personal preference

Everything except the accent colors mounts to the primary structure of the cases via press-fit magnets. I've found that some of the fits are not always press-fit and require a little glue. The following table provides the quantity and size of magnets used in the case. These are all cylinder magnets I purchased on Amazon.

I just got my P2S and wanted to make a 3D Catan set. I tried once with my Ender years ago but armed with two AMS I wanted to really make a good set and knew I needed a case to keep it all together this time. This was by far the best case I could find on the internet. So many of the cases didn't account for the 5-6 player expansion which I knew was essential. The case printed fairly quickly, a few days. The results were great. The case has slots for all the tiles, all the cards, everything. I was even able to scale some of the cooler trophies and fit them into the accessory box. I like that there was extra art assets included so I was able to swap out a few things (and make my own in places) I did a red theme since I plan to print another box for seafarers that I'll be doing my best to modify in Tinkercad, luckily this box is pretty modular. I also used the retractable handle remix that just_nikolay made so I can stack these in the future. Thank you so much for the design!!

The longest road is on Maker World by MKReady and is an easy print. The Largest Army is from Thingiverse by Klokttem. Should be easy to search them up. The Largest Army I painted in Bambu Studio manually, it took a long time and printing took three days, needs supports too if you print it. I took both and scaled them down to fit into the Frosty's accessory case, printing them larger would be easier. Also printed these little pucks to glue under them so you can read the card text on them.

What an incredible project... A whole lot of magnets to install, but totally worth it. Everything worked perfectly. Well thought out, extremely well executed. I printed it and the Catan set as a Christmas gift for my daughter. Thanks for the work you did on this.

This case is what convinced me to print the game. Love the concept and the design. Photo shows my rework of the dice/robber box to be 4 color, and I think it turned out great.

Would it be possible to get cases for the other expansions? This is the best case available so I'm getting ready to print one for the base game and 5-6 but I still have Seafarers, Cities & Knights and eventually Traders and Barbarians. A second case mostly identical to this one but with the player boxes holding ships instead of cities/towns/roads and a few extra/modified spaces since the hex count is lower with Seafarers would probably work, considering C&K is just more small pieces, cards and a few hexes for city development they might even be able to share a box but I think having 3-4 of these boxes all stacked up with their 3D sets inside would be so cool. Would you maybe accept a commission for additional storage boxes? Also, this version has no spot to store the instruction booklets does it?

Thanks! I can take a look at the other expansions. I’m sure it’s not that much of a difference so no need for a commission. I’ll get back to you after I get a chance to evaluate.

second this! I just finished printing everthing and love it so much, all I need to make it perfect is a way to store the cities and knights expansion pieces. I'm considering designing an add-on to yours that clips into the bottom just to store the expansion piecies.

Imajosh, just wanted to see if you worked on an add-on for CnK. I'm almost done modifying this case to hold Seafarers and I have models for CnK next. I'm pretty bad at modeling, only using TinkerCAD. I'd love to see what ideas you might have come up or share what I have with you if you wanna mess with it or can live with all the lack of polish in my models. I might upload it as a remix but like I said, it's got some quality issues I'm not thrilled with for the public to have to deal with.

I also printed expansions, so I didn’t go with the whole of this storage option, which does look amazing. but some of the individual storage options in here are still the best available that I could find. in particular, the harbor storage is one that I ultimately went with for my overall storage collection.

Do you need multiple AMS units for this print? I see some played like the harbor case requires 6 different colors. and can you please explain the point of the logos and art plate? thank you.

you could reduce the number of colors on certain parts to make them all only require a single AMS. I am currently working on a building cost card that only needs 1 AMS i included the logos and art plate so you could swap out stuff in the models if you preferred a different logo.

A very nice print, I had a lot of fun completing everything. I printed everything so far with an AMS, I'm just missing the construction cost cards which I'm still waiting for ;) For the construction cost cards, all that's needed are small cutouts for the icons, so that you can simply glue them together, like the ports for example. I hope they are finished soon :) My fields are printed in grey (base) or white (expansion), so that you can distinguish between the base game and expansion from below. Then primed and painted with acrylic paint and finally sealed with clear varnish. I had to wait the longest for the rod magnets. For the remaining magnets, I decided on black magnets

Thanks, I started with the game piece covers and those came out perfect, but as im moving onto the other plates I realized some of the objects need 2 AMS's to print in 1 go (looking at the building cost tiles atm). Is there a way to do it with a single ams, by like pausing and swapping a bunch of the colors? Never done that before.

yeah I had some reservations about adding those with 2 AMS. you might be better off just reducing the number of colors for some of those. like for the bank cover you could make the yellow and gold the same to get that to 4 colors. the build cost tiles took me a while to get right. maybe change some of the colors to white and paint?
