Description

Description:

This is a front roller set for the Hydra PRO AMS that requires no permanent modification to your existing front rollers and no parts you don't already have.

Printing:

I used Bambu PETG-CF for the shafts/gears and SpiderFlex 75a Matte TPE for the roller pads. Normal PETG works fine for the shafts/gears, and PLA would presumably be fine as well. I would recommend using softer a TPU or even TPE for the roller pads if possible, alternatively you could print them in something that isn't grippy and apply some duct tape or electrical tape later. When using too hard of a material for the roller pads you may notice some roller slippage.

Assembly:

All parts are friction fit so they are very tight. I would recommend having a small mallet and some glue handy, though neither are strictly required.

  1. Pull the bearing off your existing rollers. You can put these back on any time, though they're cheap so I'd recommend purchasing some. (I used these)
  2. Place the bearings on the end of the two half shafts. Getting one on and gently tapping the second into place worked best for me.
  3. Place the roller covers over the shafts. Take note of the end with a cutout for the bearing, that side faces outwards. Once at the point they're hard to push on by hand using an extra roller cover and a mallet to tap them the rest of the way works well.
  4. Lube the gears. The lube that came with your printer works fine. (Alternatively I used this)
  5. And your done!

Made a few changes to the profile as I struggled to get quality prints at 0.08mm layers and the default infill. Printed in PETG, 6 perimeters, 25% gyroid infill.

What material did you use for the "silicone"-parts?

Some old clear tpu I had. Printing a slightly 'rubbish' print added some texture to them. I found however these did still slip a bit, so went with the hydra pro modification instead after all that!

Other Issues:I could be wrong but based on the knowledge of how a gear works, the teeth on the gear are not evenly spaced.

Thanks for the models. I'm interested in trying them. Your rear rollers also look good. Are they your design or can you please share a link? Thanks.

They're my design but they're not working as I'd hoped quite yet. I'll be sure to upload them when they're finished though!

Do you have any other recommendation for a working TPU? The TPE you recommended is not easy available here in Germany.

You want the softest material you can get for the roller pads as it tends to be more grippy. The TPE I used was just the softest I could get quickly, standard 95a TPU will work but not well. Printing the roller pads with whatever you have laying around then adding some sort of tape or rubberized coating would probably be easier to find. It might even work better, I haven't experimented though. Keep in mind you'll likely need to scale them slightly if you do this as they were intended to be a flexible material so there's no tolerance built in.

The TPU rollers need a brim to adhere with this profile
