Description
Puzzle Map, a game invented by Tong Yegeng in the 19th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign of the Qing Dynasty.
The Puzzle Map was originally devised by Tong Yegeng, a scholar of the late Qing Dynasty, in the summer of 1893, during the Guangxu reign.
Compared to the tangram, this game presents a more refined and enigmatic challenge. Tong, along with his five sons, utilized the Puzzle Map to construct thousands of characters. Following meticulous organization by Tong, his youngest son, Tong Danian, painstakingly sketched each character, leading to the publication of the "Thousand Character Essay on Puzzle Maps." This book offers an exhaustive explanation of the Puzzle Map game and its enthralling, ingenious gameplay. At the time, scholars universally acknowledged Tong's inventive brilliance and the game's unique capacity to stimulate mental acuity. Prince Gong himself bestowed a calligraphic inscription upon the book. In addition to this publication, Tong also authored "Yanji Tu," a compilation showcasing diverse patterns created with the Puzzle Map.
Game rules: In each game, a designated area represents a single Chinese character. You must arrange all fifteen pieces within this area without any overlap, ensuring the combined shape precisely mirrors the designated area's outline. Free movement, rotation, and flipping of each piece are permitted.
