Description

This one will definitely be a fan favorite with kids and adults! I wanted to create a grenade toy that exploded when it hit something. After a lot of thought, I decided to design it using magnets (16 in total).

I first created the grenade, and then I broke it into pieces like a puzzle. After that, I added the holes for the magnets, and now we have a functioning toy grenade! It is quite fun to use, and I'm excited for you to try it out! Keep in mind that it's very easy to lose the pieces because they go flying everywhere, but its worth it lol.

I made five files that make up the grenade. The bottom section, middle piece, top section, handle, and pin.

I didn't put all of them on the same build plate to make keeping track of the magnets direction (polarity) easier.

Print Setting:

I recommend printing the bottom pieces first, then moving to the middle piece, then the top pieces, followed by the handle and the pin. I will have 3MF files for each piece with all the settings I used to print them (including the stops needed to embed the magnets into the print).

I recommend 30% infill or less. If you do more infill, the magnets might not be strong enough to stick to each other.

You will need 16, 6 by 3mm Neodymium Magnets. These are the magnets I use if you are interested:

Scalability

I would not scale it up but you might be able to scale it down a little bit.

Print the version with the holes and Pauses (DO NOT REPAIR THE BUILD IF PROMPTED) After you have prepared check that the holes are there in the slicer Add the magnets all facing North, use super glue or they will fling out, stick to the machine or the other magnet Be careful with the orientation If you look at the picture and assume everything faces up/north when in the correct orientation then it's fine. As advised, go bottom to top and testing as you go, it makes sense once you get going.

So for the magnets, do you just orient them so that they hold the model together? Does it 'explode' by just tossing it around or is there some magnet magic I'm missing?

Yes that is correct, the magnets hold the model together and then when you throw it, it is suppose to explode. I have a video on my social media accounts showing it in action.

Amazing model, once dumb me put the top half magnets in correct way!! If your following the other comment advice, and doing all NORTH facing, remember to invert one of the halves off the grenade tops when looking at the build plate off your printer. I did evverything NORTH up, EXCEPT for one of the halves of the grenade (bottom or top, it doesnt really matter as the middle piece can be flipped over and still work - just as long as each bottom\top are different polarity)

Printed perfect, has to look in the comments for how the magnets go but once I had that info it was fine. Pauses are already build into code so you can easily insert magnets. just make sure the polarity is right. Thanks.

The way these are uploaded make them nearly impossible to work with, can't even export stl, can't edit settings, can't load multiple in bambu. Would it be possible to get some .stls in the raw model, or differently exported .3mf files? For instance I'd like to plate these out so people can easily print everything from one profile, but I cannot even add two models on the same plate currently.
