WHAT IS IT

A travel version of a marble boardgame. The games I have seen that use this board are Carbles, Aggrevation, Trouble, the Marble Game, Wahoo, and many others. The posted model does not have text on the top, the printed one was made for friends.

WHY I MADE IT

My friends provided me with their ‘Cauff’ board, and asked if I could reprint it smaller and/or lighter for travel. I looked all over and there were no Cauff board STLs… so I designed my own. I took creative license and modified the board to make it more travel friendly. Ended up with two very different versions, but this was the most polished. After completing my designs, I realized Cauff was actually just a manufacture of wooden things. The game board is actually called Carbles, Aggrevation, Trouble, the Marble Game, Wahoo, and many other names.

WHAT YOU NEED

The dice and marbles can be found here… Amazon.com: Game Bag of 24 Glass Marbles (16mm Diameter) and 6 Dice for Aggravation Game : Toys & Games (non-affiliated link).

DESIGN INTENT

  • Make pieces snap together for easy transport.
  • Design for 16mm marbles.
  • Print without supports (or supports integrated into model).
  • Allow 4 to 6 players.
  • Allow colored boards without an MMU.
  • No glue required.

PRINTING

  • PLA recommended (PETG, ABS or ASA will work) (Silk not recommended for board)
  • .2mm layer height
  • 3 walls recommended
  • 4 top/bottom layers recommended
  • 15% Infill minimum

Each board piece can be printed with less than 60g of filament, and takes me less than 2 hrs.

ASSEMBLY

Print the Main Board 4 to 6 times, depending on the number of players you want. Print the
Color Inserts.STL for each board printed, in the color you plan to use. Standard colors are Black, White, Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. I made these with only .1mm clearance, so they may fit tightly. You can scale the insert model to 99.5% and it will fit in a little easier. There are 3mm holes in the board where the color inserts go. This allows the pieces to be removed if needed. I will post a version without the holes in the Extras folder, as well as one that doesn't use inserts in case you want to paint them.

Finally, print a shortcut. I created a “Quad Shortcut”, which is square shaped pedestal which can be placed in the center for 4 players or more. I also created a “Travel Shortcut” which can be stored with the board. It is located in the 'Bonus- Extras' folder.

The board has built in supports, so supports are NOT required when printing. An unsupported model will be added in the ‘Bonus- Extras' folder at a later date.

These fit great for me. One potential improvement for the print file would be making them all separate objects so users can print exactly how many they need straight from the app. I broke 2 of mine by pressing too hard into the game board and to reprint just 2 I had to go to the computer slicer. Just a suggestion 🙏🏼

I'm printing this now! My siblings and I grew up playing "The Marble Game" on a wooden board. We still have the one we grew up with, but it's big and clunky and expensive to get more made. This is an awesome travel version and I can't wait to show my siblings. May be Christmas or birthday gifts this year! for the quad piece with a single space in it, is that a functional piece of the game? I'm not familiar with it. How is it used according to rules? I read through the carbles rules but didn't see mention of it. We are used to playing the game with a deck of cards rather than dice. I've never tried it with dice, but the cards are nice because there's a bit more strategy and planning and you can react to what others are doing. Not sure if the dice allow the same level of strategy vs luck. Anyways, I would love to see a case or addon that will hold all the pieces with a deck of cards too!

The cover fit too tight and forced the lip to break... Otherwise, great design.

Strength Issue:These printed nicely but the skinny part of the marble pieces was very fragile and snapped off in the game boxes. After the first one broke I applied some pressure with my fingers on other colors/materials I had printed and they all broke pretty easily. I ended up going with another model that printed 2 marble halves that snapped together permanently with a peg style locking mechanism.
