Description

Drybox for the safe storage of filament

No tools or fasteners required for assembly

Turn your Sterilite 20 Qt box into a filament storage box with room for up to 5 spools! Just assemble everything as shown in the pictures and enjoy an orderly, flexible and stackable storage system. Comes with an optional holder for a hygrometer so you'll always know if you need to recharge the silica or not. Silica storage can be removed from the box without the need for disassembly.

All you need (besides the printable parts and the box itself) is any ½ inch plastic or pvc pipe as can be found in any home hardware store. Cut two pieces to a length of 330 mm (13 inches) each and you're all set.

All printable parts are designed so they can be printed by the Bambu Lab A1 mini, the Prusa Mini or any other printer with a print plate of at least 180 x 180 mm. Prints without the need for supports, except for the two end pieces. If you print from my print profile these supports are minimal and super easy to remove.

If your hygrometer requires slanted slots or you prefer an open back instead of an enclosed one, check out the print profile named “Hygrometer mounts (optional)”. This print profile contains four different options for your hygrometer. The main print profile named “All printable parts” contains only the hygrometer mount with straight slots and an enclosed back.

Bill of materials:

  • Sterilite 20 Qt box with gasket. Approximately $9 for one or $50 for 6. Can be found at Amazon, Walmart, Target, Home Depot or any other department store.
  • PVC pipe with a diameter of ½ inch. Around $4 to $5 for 10 feet. Can be found at any hardware store like Lowes, Home Depot, ACE Hardware or Amazon.
  • Silica beads. Available online everywhere. My personal favorite are the orange indicating, rechargeable beads from Dry&Dry, but any other brand works as well.
  • Hygrometer (optional). Any round hygrometer with the standard measurements of 44 x 15 mm works. Here's one example from Amazon, but they can be found anywhere online.

Is there a way you could a version of the hygrometer mount that has the inner slots rotated counter-clockwise 45 degrees? The ones I have do not align vertically when I put them in.

Yes, absolutely! Are you sure that’s 45 degrees though? Looks more like 22.5 to me.

I added a second print profile with slanted slots, please let me know if that one works for you.

Love this print. I had a bunch of these exact containers laying around so I had to use them. Sadly I can only fit 4 Bambu lab spools while it looks like the OP managed to squeeze in 5, though not all are bambu lab spools.

Happy to hear you like it! :) Yeah, five spools is pushing it. It won't work if you use filament clips that make the spool wider, and it does help to have a cardboard spool or two in the mix as well, as they have a little more give. If only Sterilite made those boxes just 5 millimeters wider.... lol.

Prints great and fits the 20 Qt Sterilite box perfectly, Two pieces of 13" long x 1/2 diameter Schedule 40 PVC is perfect, no bending. For whatever reason, the download direct to Bambu Studio does not work for the A1, wrong printer settings or something. I downloaded the models and printed on A1 default settings with support enabled. Thank you!

Interesting. I have no idea why that happens, since all parts are designed to be printable by even the A1 Mini. Glad you could make it work though!

Can we make the hygrometer mount (I use the slanted slots) open on the back so the sensor in the back of the hygrometer is exposed to the air inside the dry box so it can accurately measure the inner environment in there?

Yup, no problem. I’m currently on the road though, so give me a few days until I get back home please. I’ll message you once I have uploaded it.

I have uploaded a number of options now, including open backs. Check out the print profile saying "Hygrometer mounts (optional)". You should find what you need in there. Thanks for your patience!

Great dryer box. Just made it, everything worked out just right. Can you make a square hydrometer mount?

I can, but I don’t own one, so I’d need to get the exact dimensions somewhere.
